About this deal

There are some positives in the form of the passive radiator that keeps internal resonances inside the box. And decent directivity index allowing equalization. Note worthy is that there is nowhere really a comparison between the 4.2 and 4.1, so I wonder where this niche group draws their conclusions from. Placement in the home theater: the EVO 4.1 can be used as front and / or surround speakers in a home cinema application. When used as a front speakers, they must be placed at the same distance on either side of the television screen (6.5 to 13 'apart) and placed on ear height. The front speakers must be placed slightly diagonally (22 ° to 30 °) so that they are directed to the main listening space. Instead of a cone or dome-shaped driver, AMTs use a light, pleated diaphragm with electrical circuit traces within a magnetic field that expands and contracts like a concertina as a music signal is applied, pushing sound out towards the listener. The light mass of the thin, folded film means it has the potential to be more responsive and immediate than drivers made with heavier materials, while the large surface area makes it particularly efficient and less prone to distortion. Standing at the height of 616mm, the Wharfedale EVO4.1 Stands metalwork is laser cut from high-grade stainless steel. This precision design means the stand is sold in stature and the stability is optimised. This considered engineering reduces vibrations and resonance of the speaker’s cabinet by effectively isolating the speaker from the floor and surroundings. The ensured result is a massively improved loudspeaker performance.

This response along with the powerful motor system helps it integrate with the AMT tweeter as well as the twin woven Kevlar bass drivers that sit below it on the front panel. The crossover point between the midrange and bass drivers is 1.2 kHz. For increased bass extension, the Evo4.1 takes inspiration from the Elysian speakers, using the bass reflex system that was previously developed for the flagship range. The Evo series features a sleek, modern design capable of fitting in anywhere, and perform equally well for music and home cinema, when matched with the Evo4.C centre. Wharfedale Evo4.1 Bookshelf Speakers features Double binding poles: The EVO 4.1 Bookshop speaker has two sets of binding stations that are connected to jumper plates. The binding piles are suitable for bare thread (up to 10AWG), pin connections, spade connections and banana plugs (single). With the help of these double binding poles you can bi-amping the speakers or bi-wires. BI cabling or bi-amping the speaker ensures a better performance of the low and high tones.Based on experiences of other ranges of modestly priced speakers, there’s usually one that hits the sweet spot and one that’s a bit of a disappointment. We have reasonable directivity for a while but then physics takes over and beam width narrows logarithmically with frequency (shown as a line here since horizontal axis is in log). Below that beam width is a bit larger than usual so the imaging would be more diffused around the speaker (good thing in small speakers in my opinion). The EVO4 line of Wharfedale uses technology and design elements that have been developed for the company's flagship, the Elysian line. The 4.1s are equipped with an advanced folded ribbon tasting that produces silky high frequencies, and a 5 "woven Kevlar Woofer offers a solid bass display. The drivers are housed in a few curved bass reflex cabinets that are carefully designed with internal reinforcements to dampen the vibrations. I don't know if this is a dealbreaker but after reading this I kind of focused more on the Diamond 12.2. I wonder if the Evo 4.1 is still worth it

Tweeter resonance seems to also be responsible for distortion in the 2 to 4 kHz. So would have definitely been nice if that was fixed in the design.

These floorstanders prove that Wharfedale has the ability to mix it with the very best at more premium prices. The Evo 4.4 are entertaining and detailed with enough in the way of refinement to make them an excellent long-term choice. If you’re looking for floorstanders at this level, put these towers high on your shortlist. You won’t regret it. We see a rather stepped response. Bass is shelved down, then we get to midrange that is rather flat but then there is a wide and large resonance center around 3.8 kHz. Close up measurements of the radiating surfaces shows the reason for the latter: The bass extension of the EVO4 is then expanded and improved by the most advanced version of the Wharfedales Signature Slot-Loaded Bassport so far. The SLPP or Slot Loaded Profiled Port is designed to extend the bass performance of the speakers using a carefully designed port in the speaker's basis, making the evo4 speakers a lot of forgiving people with their placement, where most speakers would struggle With the bass outlet, the EVO4s will still shine. Characteristics As for position, I have them on stands (spiked through carpet on concrete floor) just over a foot away from side walls and pretty much open from behind and slightly toed in towards listening position.

Featuring a Kevlar woofer cone, the EVO 4.1 delivers class-leading precision. From the lifelike vocals to punchier instrumentals, the EVO 4.1 remains true to your music. Downwards firing bass ports integrate better with your room and also make the speakers easier to position as they can be placed closer to a rear wall. I often listen to music using Grado SR125e headphones, a sound that I like very much. These have a much closer tonal balance to the Mission speakers. The Evos have a tonal balance similar to my Sky sound box, which if you've ever used to play music is just awful. I'm not saying the Evos sound anything like it, it's just a similar tone. The attractive EVO 4.1 bookshelf speakers of Wharfedale offer quality sound as a stand-alone stereo couple, or as a front speakers in a surround sound system. A good couple of tripods helps improve the sound of your speakers by giving them a stable, vibration-free platform. It also places them at ideal listening height. The Wharfedale EVO4.1 Stands are purpose-designed for the Wharfedale EVO4.1 standmount (or bookshelf) loudspeakers. No guessing why when a range ends, that not every model gets discounted. A couple never sold as well and end up in Richer Sounds or Sevenoaks at 40% off.
