About this deal

Because this matte elegance of amber harmonizes excellently with the dominant earthy-resinous spice. The heavy Amber plays a big role here and combines excellently with the slightly chocolate-spotted benzoin - a classic mixture with which you can't do much wrong in principle, because it's cuddly and round.

During a spontaneously warm amber reception, we are served from a mysterious elongated bottle of fragrance. Welcome. Something Bruneian? With the irritating fertility of tropical nights Ambre Sultan has two kinds of flankers which are the oily version Serge Lutens Ambre Sultan Confit de Parfum which provides a more intimate experience, and the Zellige Limited Edition which was released in 2020. OK - you can wear it and I like it quite a lot, even if I would have preferred to do without the dry dustiness. But that's exactly what makes the character of Ambre Sultan so special, that he doesn't predictably exude his aura, but gets some rough edges.

The one-to-one replica of these herbs is magnificent and doesn’t come as medicinal at all as it can be in other green perfumes. Upon the first spray, I knew this was something special, just as was my experience with Chergui. Equally enticing, and somewhat scary, with each new wearing, Ambre Sultan unfold itself more and eventually, told me the whole story. Yes, the vanilla is dry and powdery and doesn’t go into the typical sweet oriental base as many other amber scents do.

So far, I find myself in the middle of a luxurious "salon car of fragrances" that richly surrounds me with all the secrets of 1001 nights. Even if you found the opening and heart challenging, in the full dry down, it is a well-known vanilla scent that avoids being just another vanilla scent in a sea of copycats. Performance A perfume line created by Serge Lutens in his own image. Minimalist, straight lined, angular and uncompromising, each of these bottles with their refined style reflects the exacting nature and character of their creator. A sobriety which enhances the richness and sumptuousness of the perfumes, whose scents and colours are as numerous and as nuanced as precious stones and our personalities. The atomizer can be removed by hand, which is a good thing if you are interested in decanting perfumes, but ultimately means that the Serge Lutens fragrances won’t last long enough as a perfume bottle with an industrially placed atomizer. So, sighing comfortably, I leave myself to the soothing sound of the wheels of my very own Orient Express, which whisks me away. The well-known story of Serge Lutens finding a wooden box containing amber wax in Marrakech starts to unfold here. The only mentioned woody note in the fragrance is sandalwood, but it ain’t that. Take your senses on a journey with the Serge Lutens Ambre Sultan Eau de Parfum. Wander through the streets of Marrakech and uncover hidden treasures with this aromatic scent, marking a return to a focus on the identity and authenticity of unique ingredients. Rich and exotic like a fragment of amber resin, the fragrance is not an Oriental, but an Arab and a Lutens.

He actually starts out the way he's supposed to stay... sort of straight to the drydown. Nothing that has to sort itself out, no disharmonies, bursting peaks, fluctuations or tarnishing, and all this without being boring. One must be aware that this type of fragrance will wear you if you don’t find it comfortable while wearing it. The scent that brings out attention, and is one of those “ you know who is the boss” types of fragrances. And, while I adore the amber superstars like Maison Francis Kurkdjian’s Grand Soir, Profumum Roma Abra Aurea, and Tom Ford’s Amber Absolute, now I see where the inspiration came from.Inspired by scented wax found in a souk and long forgotten in a wooden box, the amber note has been given a sultanesque quality and re-worked with fragrant Cistus herb. The intoxicating deep balsamic and spiced qualities of the fragrance exude from notes of Patchouli, Benzoin and Labdanum. An unexpected overtone of Vanilla helps to soften the fragrance with warm and creamy notes. In the early '90s, inspired by his time spent in Morocco, Lutens started to create perfumes, eventually launching them under his own brand in 2000. Made in France but inspired by the rich aromas of Morocco, the fragrances marry a blueprint of iconic French chicness and the luxurious notes associated with North Africa. And trust me when I say all Serge Lutens perfumes are wearable, beautiful and unique. Oh, and it's not just me who thinks it. In fact, Kate Moss once shared her love for the brand's cult Fleurs d'Oranger perfume in an interview with Evening Standard.

The Limited Edition comes with a new bottle design, but the notes and everything else remains the same base on the other consumers who have tried it. The warm, and tame base will remind you of many more expensive niche amber fragrances which obviously were “ inspired” by Ambre Sultan, just don’t recreate this kind of powerful experience. As if I were in a "compartment of fragrances", in which I can stay for several hours and feel good. King of the hill must certainly be Serge Lutens Ambre Sultan. It opens big, with a large throw of balsamic amber tempered with herbs and spices. Coriander, bay leaf, and oregano lead in the slightly astringent opening, but the drydown is a pure syrupy powder delight. This one requires the right frame of mind, as it is not an everyday sort of fragrance, and commitment, as it easily lasts all day. Separated from the first weeks of his mother, his personality will be marked from then on by the feeling of an original abandonment. Constantly torn between two families, he lives at a distance and invents himself. He’s a dreamer. At the Montesquieu school, he is said to be “in the moon”: he does not follow, even if his teachers recognize him as a storyteller.Serge Luten’s fragrance house comes from the old world perfumery which their fragrances reflect. By saying something appreciates and works on values from the last century doesn’t mean their fragrances smell old.
