About this deal

Despite the smaller dimensions of the 1lb tin, the depth and density of your 1lb loaf made with half the mixture will not be that dissimilar to that of the 2lb loaf. If your chosen tin is longer and/or wider than the tin size suggested by the recipe (eg a square or round cake tin), then your mixture will be less deep, so you would expect it to cook more quickly.

If there is still mixture on the skewer, you need to put the cake back in the oven for another five minutes and then keep checking on it as before. The lack of lip made turning the cake out a little bit of a fiddly process, yet it slipped out of the tin easily with no sticking at all. When you purchase from us, you can rest assured that you're getting a truly exceptional product that has been carefully crafted to meet your every need. After making our batch of lemon drizzle batter and filling the tin, we noticed the tin looked very full. Although the inside of this pan is non-stick, we’d recommend buttering and flouring the floral design inside to ensure a smooth and easy release from the pan.

A delicious cup of coffee makes the perfect accompaniment for a slice of cake: for the very best, read our best coffee machines round-up. He suggests 650g of sourdough rye dough, but I use about 560g for my small rye loaves which rise almost to the top of the tin (really don't want it going over as it wouldn't be supported! And if you’re not in the mood for bread don’t worry, loaf pans are great for polenta cakes, small-batch bars, and meatloaf. Specially developed with Mary Berry, the ‘Queen of Cakes’, this range covers all the standard sizes of cake tin that we all use again and again. This is easier with grams, but here’s a chart for cutting down a recipe by cups and a guide to using different pans. Let your glassware tell your story The Glass Is Where It All Begins From wine glasses that enhance flavours giving an incomparable tasting experience, through to vintage cocktail glasses which add sophistication to your dinner party. The cake itself was fluffy, spongy and moist inside, with even and consistent browning around the outside. A 900gm loaf of bread will start off with about 1200gms of dough (because the water tends to evaporate during proving and cooking). I have several that are different dimensions, some short and long others high and narrow, I have come across some recipe sites that mention measurements but the tins are wider at the top than the bottom so where do you measure them, others talk about a 1lb or 2lb tin how do I know ?

ProCook is dedicated to supporting our long-term charity partner's mission to inspire action to reduce single use plastics. We would suggest approximately 50 minutes for the 1lb loaf rather than the full hour for the 2lb loaf - perhaps check by sight and smell after 40 minutes to be sure. Having had a look at the tins, the two-pound tin looks about right and the one-pound tins maybe a little too small. The generous portion of the tin is perfect for creating traditional loaves as well as lemon drizzle cakes, fruit loaves and even meatloaf, adding versatility to your cooking experience.

Please beware the difference between internal and external measurements, since a protruding lip will affect measurements - try to ignore this when measuring. This is the optimal loaf tin size for this particular recipe but that’s not to say you can’t get good results from a different tin size - or even from a different shape. A former bakery owner noted that “most of my breads lose about 12% in baking…Drier doughs lose less, wetter doughs lose more. This is a commercial tin and if I take a supermarket pan loaf it fits right in, with a little poking out the top. However, you will be entering into the realm of “experimental baking” if you deviate from this aspect of the recipe so take a deep breath and prepare to be flexible - and accept that the first time you bake this recipe with the wrong size tin, the results may not be absolutely perfect.

Actually, LaLoose, I have just been in to the Showroom and measured; I litre for a 1lb, possibly down to 900ml (as our pans are on the large size). If your first experiment with your chosen tin size was not successful, you may need to try the recipe again but also altering the oven temperature. For even more inspiration for recipes that require a loaf tin, take a look at our best loaf cake recipes.
