I have never used liming wax before so was a little hesitant but no need for that, it was easy to use and did the exact job I hoped for. So here’s a nice bit here because there’s a lot of lovely wood grain, that’s going to really look good. The white pigment in Liming Wax is Titanium Dioxide (TiO2) which gives it a brilliant white finish which will perfectly highlight open grain.

To prepare the wood for a whitewash Liming effect, you need to first make sure the surface is clean and has no previous finish by using wood stripper and steel wire wool to remove this (Liming works best on bare wood). These waxes don't crack or chip, there is no fading or yellowing, and they will keep protecting your finished piece for a long time.Now use a very course wire wool ( grade 4 Liberon Steel Wool is ideal) to remove the last of the stripper and finish. The more coats of oil that are applied the greater the water resistance and the higher the shine will be. It is particularly effective on deeply grained timber, namely oak, where the white wax can settle into the grooves, accentuating the grain and adding a sense of depth and texture to the entire piece itself.

Remove the white haze using a cloth and Neutral Black Bison Paste Wax, or if a water-resistant finish is required, with Liberon Finishing Oil. As for the wax, it won’t wipe off on clothes after it dries, but you might want to seal it with their other wax. Real Milk Paint Company sells only natural and environmentally friendly wood wax products, and there’s a great selection to choose from, including zero VOC wax, carnauba wax and wax flakes, Myland’s wax, soapstone sealer, and traditional brown wax. Exaggerate the effect by opening the grain with a bronze wire brush carefully before applying the wax. This helps the liming wax to settle into the grain patterns, accentuating the wood’s unique character and texture. Clean the Surface: Once you have an open grain, wipe the surface with a clean cloth to remove any loose dust or debris.It’s a particularly effective tool when applied to woods with a prominent grain structure, as it makes the grain patterns stand out in a striking way.
