About this deal

com (also known as Esprit) has been the world's biggest and best seller of premium quality and top condition rare and vintage vinyl records, rare CD's and music memorabilia since 1985 - that's 39 years! Regardless of country of origin all tracks are sung in English, unless otherwise stated in our description. of them fell out during the transport - even worse, 3 of the most generously scratched CDs kept occasionally skipping and ultimately freezing on the same track on every player I tried, even after I thoroughly cleaned them a number of times.

This in-the-round approach confirms what we already knew, namely that Lizzy were on-point every night. It has continued to attract critical acclaim and it has appeared in several lists of the greatest live albums of all time. Consistently highly placed if not number one in all-time best live album lists "Live and Dangerous" deserves it's accolades. Besides, no change was as dramatic – not even snippets so subtly removed from R osalie, Dancing In The Moonlight, Baby Drives Me Crazy etc – as the re-sequencing necessary to make the 17 songs fit across four sides of vinyl. It was recorded in London in 1976, and Philadelphia and Toronto in 1977, with further production in Paris. Live and Dangerous was released in 1978 and is arguably one of the best live albums of all time It was recorded in London and Toronto in 1977, during the tours accompanying the albums Johnny the Fox and Bad Reputation. It goes to dispel the rumours that the album was extensively overdubbed in the studio and its presented here as the shows were intended with the rawness of a band, they were at the top of their game night after night.

The twin guitar attack of Brian Robertson and Scott Gorham, the rhythmic prowess of Brian Downey, and the lyrical genius of Phil Lynott make Thin Lizzy a band to treasure. This segue remained a staple of the band's setlist for the rest of their career, and examples can be found on other live releases. Compiled (and then overdubbed - so what and who cares anyway) from recordings of Thin Lizzy's 1976 "Johnny The Fox" and 1977 "Bad Reputation" tours "Live and Dangerous" showcases Thin Lizzy when the band was at its all too short peak with the Lynott, Gorham, Robertson and Downey line-up. The super deluxe edition of Live And Dangerous finally puts to bed the myth that the album was extensively overdubbed in the studio and proves that Thin Lizzy was not only at the top of their game night after night but was one of the best live bands of the 1970s.The sleeve notes were written by Malcolm Dome and included a debate of exactly how much of the album was live and how much was overdubbed.

Now wrapping a sold-out UK Tour in support of Jailbreak’s rapid fire follow-up Johnny The Fox, they were hyped; a cocked pistol waiting to fire.

NME reviewer Tim Chester declared Live and Dangerous "the best live album we ever heard" despite the alleged overdubs, which he dismissed as irrelevant. Like UFO’s 2020’s box set containing all six gigs recorded to create Strangers In The Night, this Super Deluxe version of Live And Dangerous delivers again the original masterpiece, plus seven live sets. Mastered by Andy Pearce and overseen by Scott Gorham, this 8CD boxset presents the definitive version of the album, containing the original release plus other key shows from between 1976-1978 (mixed by Ben Findlay from the original multi-tracks).

One thought that really stuck with me throughout this box set was that it documents a great band, at the absolute height of their powers.Concurrently, Lizzy’s attempts to break America touring March 1976’s Jailbreak on the back of US Number 12 hit The Boys Are Back In Town had just come to nought when, sick and yellow-eyed with hepatitis, Lynott had been forced to quit the tour and fly home. The band had rearranged "Still in Love with You" to be slower and more emotional than the original studio version, and the version on Live and Dangerous was considered by Putterford the highlight of Lynott's musical career.
