About this deal

But when a UFO crash-lands in a cornfield near her home, Ruth is suddenly launched into a supersonic adventure full of mystery and surprises… and a secret that could change the course of history! Some of the scenes are drawn like a children’s comic book and I especially loved his illustration for Spaceboy with his metal head and flowing cape.

Pretty much every page was just a load of silly speech full of puns and jokes, and there was barely anything serious. Space Boy is a non-stop fun-fest, with tons and tons of action, a courageous heroine, a funny furry friend at her side, and an alien with a very, very big secret. I've lost count of how many David Walliams books I've read now (all with my 10yo) but this one has been my favourite so far. I was glad to see the historical context of the book, a bit of history there for readers, and Walliams actually reins in some of the usual silliness with no Raj or disgusting lunch menus.Bursting with action, laugh-out-loud moments and lots of surprises along the way, Spaceboy is the unmissable David Walliams space adventure that all kids will love.

This really sounds like the movie "Chicken Run": damsel in distress, "flying" boy who to the rescue -but is he really flying? The humor is juxtaposed against themes of loneliness and rejection, creating a comedy with empathy and soul. There is a silliness to it but also a depth as both Ruth and Spaceboy have a parent-guardian who abuses them verbally on a daily bases. We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. Schock has built 25 rockets that have all crashed, but Ruth immediately realises that his brand-new rocket needs a pointy –not round– head. And it seems David is quite behind on gender stereotypes as there's always some cobblers about boys doing one thing and girls doing another or so-and-so looking/acting like a girl etc. UFOs, alien invasions, creatures from other planets - if it came from outer space then Ruth wants to know all about it. After reluctantly taking in her orphaned relative Ruth, Aunt Dorothy put her straight to work on the farm. As much as they try to escape (riding ostriches, rolling in giant transparent balls, running in the desert, or sliding in craters), Ruth, Spaceboy, and Yuri end up in a top-secret US military base, caught by the faceless figures who happen to be soldiers in special costumes. The book is a chapter book but it is equally also a picture book as half of the content is illustrative.

A helter skelter chase follows on ostrich back and more with all of Walliam’s sound effects decorating the text. And so, when a blazing flying saucer shoots across the sky one night, Ruth dashes out from behind her telescope to find out more.David’s books have now exceeded 100 non-consecutive weeks at children’s number one, and have been translated into 53 languages, selling more than 35 million copies worldwide.
