About this deal

But after years of drinking and womanising, he has been given one last chance to save both his career and his marriage – he has seven weeks to transform a failing company. Emotional depth – The novel explores themes of redemption, forgiveness, and the power of the past to shape our present, which can be moving and thought-provoking for readers. Not only is Sipho always able to find help with relative ease, but he encounters more discomfort than danger on the street: A botched experiment with glue-sniffing leaves him feeling ill; a midnight roundup by disguised police ends with a cold but anticlimactic dunk in a lake; food, money, even soap and water are not difficult to come by; incidents of violence and predation are implied, anecdotal, or offstage. She steps into the situation and shoots the intruder after we discover she is an ex-police officer, and that the intruder is Homeland Security.

It has been highlighted that if you’re blaming someone for any mistake they’ve made, you should be completely sure about it, or else you can end up destroying their entire life. Some reviewers have commented they preferred Turner's Jon Reznick series to this one, but whilst I'm not all gaga about Jack McNeal, I do think he's worth continuing with. The first-person narration is infused with rich, colorful language—“She was skinnier than a toothpick with termites”—and Mary Alice’s shrewd, prickly observations: “Anybody who thinks small towns are friendlier than big cities lives in a big city. Scobie described the Princess of Wales, whom he alleged was dubbed "Katie keen", as "cold" and "willing to bring the requisite smile and elegance to her duties as princess" without challenging the royal system. The scenes lack description, so you are not able to really submerse yourself within the story, each chapter reads as a brief outline of events. Wasn’t sure about starting another FBI series since I’m reading quite a few as it is, so I gave it one more chance to hook me.

Things don’t go far as Wendy discovers this is not something she wants, or can bring herself to follow through, but the damage is done. The storyline is all very simplistic and the characterisation is two-dimensional and lacking in any kind of depth. The plot doesn't develop but proceeds until it stops, trailing off after a vaguely described peace rally and a brief visit home. But at the end it was good because her sentence is changed to going into exile which is actually much better living conditions than in staying in London in prison. What Lewis does not offer is respect; that and his sullen son's antagonism soon drive Sipho back to the streets for one night, after which he settles in with his friend, Jabu, in a children's shelter. As she navigates the complicated relationships and secrets of the Fowler family, Jane must confront her own painful past and find a way to move forward. It has been a long time since I picked up a crime thriller because I like my horror to be unrealistic and could never happen. He has even accused Jane of stealing their family piano, not knowing their grandmother gifted her with it. One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Taxi Driver, Goodfellas, Heat, The Godfather, The Offence, The Parallax View, Silver Linings Playbook, The Banshees of Inisherin, The Gray Man, The French Connection, Payback, It’s a Wonderful Life, Manhattan, Sideways, Annie Hall, Hell or High Water. The characters felt well developed, I feel I know jack, his family, and their relationships as well as how his department works, although this is a lesser content.

Instead of being grateful for the facilities she has been given, she focuses on breaking up their ties so that she remains most important to her adoptive father. When Lisa Martin and David Kirby were forced to part, they never dreamed they might one day have a second chance. At Yale Law School, she continues to be a leader- and catches the eye of driven, handsome and charismatic Bill. The fundamental plot is fine, it just takes a while to get going (over a quarter of the way into the book). The arena may be a small hick town, but the battle for domination over that tiny turf is fierce, and Grandma Dowdel is a canny player for whom losing isn’t an option.
