Personally I dislike it when authors do this as I feel cheated having paid for a book only to find it incomplete and having to fork out more money if I want to find out what happens next. I will keep reading because I like the characters Durrant has created, and it's interesting to see how they work to solve the cases they're investigating. Longer isn't always better but in an extended format a book tends to have more than a passing interest.

I'm confused by her choice of very similar titles and without some kind of guidance I seem to be always picking a book in the middle of a series.

This time they are out to catch a sadistic killer who has already killed at least twice, but probably there are more bodies to find! We get a mention of some things that happened in the past, and we get a very unsatisfying reason - but I don't really feel like it made sense for the killer to make the jump that he did.
