I ask the question 'who is this book for' a lot when reading, and this is the first time I really couldn't tell. The boxy design of the original Defender has circumnavigated the world with iconic shots of the Defender everywhere you can possibly go on the planet.
This time round we delve further into the relationships between the royal children, particularly the complicated dynamic between the heir and the spare. This is a fun fantasy story but it raises some interesting questions about the British Monarchy's relevance to Britain and the somewhat antagonistic relationship they have with their subjects in the 21st Century. Packed full of superhero's and villains as well as normal everyday life situations, this is a great read for young and old alike. Gerry McGovern and his team have developed an incredible design and it really does have everything you’d want.I love Hayley's character especially, and I love the mix of folklore, history, magic and technology that this AU Britain has. I couldn’t help but feel a little sorry for Alfie who would much rather be doing almost anything than trying to uphold his public image or defending us all from various murderous creatures.
