One thought is to pop rivet a length of aluminium plate - say 60mm x 3mm thick or whatever - fixed to the closing door. In the end, we skipped that step and screwed the roof on from the inside (the step after the apex frame), and then went back to slot the metal apex in place – I wished we’d done this from the beginning as it made things so much easier.
