About this deal

My last peeve with the writing was the fact that all the other characters could be referred to by their first name ALONE. But LEGION GREY is 90% of the time mentioned with his full name. There are 74 instances in the book where his full name are mentioned (I read this as an ebook so could easily count the search)… a few instances of a full name are fine, but after about 13 my skin started crawling when I saw it. The ways in which the alt right do this are not bound by historical accuracy by any means, but designed to push an agenda. This also seems to be the case in this novel. Vikings would definitely have slaves, but historically these slaves would more than likely have been from the British Isles or from Finland, or other neighbouring countries. Ettans, on the other hand, are described explicitly as dark skinned. Trapped By Her Sense Of Duty, Elise Is Given To The Charge Of Legion Grey, The Handsome And Mysterious Dowry Negotiator. But Legion Holds More Than Her Future In His Hands. He Incites Her Anger And A Forbidden Passion.

The plot remains too predictable even for my taste of reading the same tropes over and over, that it almost feels childish how predictable the “twist” was. When A Coup Upends The Kingdom, Elise Flees With Legion, Only To Discover He Holds More Secrets Than Anyone. Unknowingly, Elise Sets In Motion A Beastly Curse Legion Has Endured As Long As He Can Remember. So I've been in a book slump for The last month and I happened to come across this author's tiktok And read the blurb and I sat on the book for a few weeks until I saw another TikTok And decided to take the plunge because I noticed that the last book comes out soon So by the time I finish Reading needs the last one will be out. This story is about Elise who is the second daughter of the Kings sister. On the night of her sisters formal engagement to her cousin (the Kings son), the King announces that he is opening up dowry negotiations for Elise. Elise wants nothing more in life than to NOT be married but after the King threatens her deadly-ill father’s treatment she has to accept the negotiations. Due to her fathers health he cannot do the negotiations and the King does not have time to do it either, so he assigns the task to the incredibly gorgeous and mysterious Legion Grey… Legion has secrets (and unknown to her but known to the reader he is cursed) and after events unfold Elise finds herself needing to make an impossible choice that could save Legion but comes with a great sacrifice. Long ago, Elise's ancestors stole the crown from the fae king. As the niece of the brutal, current king, her purpose is to do whatever is asked to ensure her family keeps the throne for centuries to come. The trouble is, Elise would rather sneak into gambling halls with the servants than be a silent princess at a ball. What began as a jest with branches a few turns ago, had grown into a kind of weekly meet to fight, to be as our people—Timoran and Ettan alike—once were. Warriors.” The H Is A Bit Naive At Times, But The Author Wrote Her True To Her Age Of About 20. Too Often Authors Write Young Characters That Are Extremely Competent In The Aspects Of There Journey. This Time You Can See The Struggle Of Her Daily Life, And The Burdens Of The Princess Title. She Slowly Grows Into Her Own Voice.

The romance was weird. The FMC finds this guy hot. And apparently sneaks out to gaming halls to stalk him, but she's never talked to him. And suddenly he's in charge of her marriage hunt? And he's just instantly drawn to her? It didn't feel believable. And the whole ending was so bizarre. They seemed like they went from "Ok, we can be friends after I felt betrayed by you" to " I love you, never leave me and I'll die for you!!!" It just threw me... I'm still invested but sceptical. I think how they tied the blood wraith into who Legion Gray was and how he was and how he is actually valid the last nightprints really sets up the rest of the series and how Ari it comes in to play for the next book. I am not sure what the title means to the story as neither court really used Ice or Ash…but overall from a storyline perspective this sequel was better than the first book, but I’m a little underwhelmed and feel this is more a 3.5 than a solid 4 that book 1 was.In addition to the strange fascination with war, Elise is portrayed as being somehow better than her fellow Timorans for believing that Ettans should be equal. We’ve seen this done many times before and I’m sad to say… we’ve seen it done better. So nothing new, nothing all that exciting happening here and EXTREMELY predictable. Like, didn’t even try to hide it at all. Forsaking her people and her birthright, Elise Lysander takes her place at the side of the new fae king of a broken land. Revered by some, hated by many, Elise’s fight for her love and freedom is only beginning.

The plot was very predictable but it didn’t distract from the fact that I was enjoying reading the story. There is a reason I read books with the same tropes constantly, so it’s almost expected on some level I know what is going to happen. When Elise agreed to break a vicious curse over the man she loved, she never imagined he was a lost fae prince. But Valen left her to carry out vengeance for his slaughtered family. So when she joins the outlaw fae in their uprising against her own sister, all Elise wants is to forget the prince who holds her heart.Long Ago, Elise’s Ancestors Stole The Crown From The Fae King. The Curse of Shadows and Thorns, while not a concrete, tangible curse, symbolizes the feeling of being trapped by misfortune. Belief in curses is deeply ingrained in human culture, but it is essential to approach such beliefs with a balanced perspective. Right off the bat, obsessions with a warrior past are not exactly a great marker - especially when coupled with the clear viking inspiration for the Timoran (Elise’s) culture. There are clear and significant ties between Viking culture and organised racist movements, with Viking imagery and symbolism used widely to help push varying white supremacist narratives. Again, throughout the book i was asking myself over and over again, why this feels so rushed. Why the author didn’t take the time to write more details or more scenes and chapters about certain things. I don’t really know how to say it, because the pace of the main plot was fine, but some things were too fast, while others were to slow. Some worldbuilding elements were thrown in without much explanations, which already bothered me in book one. I think this would have been even bigger and better with more length and details! Because the idea and the plot are so good! AND THE CHARACTERS! 💛 But for Elise and Valen this fight could be their hard-fought salvation…or a vicious end to everything they love.
