About this deal

Bowens have had 2 different types of fitting during their history (as far as I know). The older 'L' style hasn't been made for quite some time and the 'S' fit has now become the norm. Pretty anything you buy that is descibed as Bowens compatible will fit this adapter. I have been using umbrellas for quite a while now and now looking to start using larger modifiers, particularly Octaboxes of around 150cm. Now I know what youre gonna say: "You wont have enough power blah blah blah" Yeah I know, thats not the question :)

My suggestion is to buy a second hand L type reflector, and modify it to fit in the speedring adapter that Bowens uses for its softboxes (don't know about other manufacturers, but is the case with the Bowens Lumiair softboxes) Bowens was certainly struggling and in June 2016, the German investment company AURELIUS bought Bowens. The following year, in July 2017, Bowens went into liquidation and AURELIUS closed it down completely shortly thereafter. We’ve heard nothing from them until now. So Where Does WEX Photographic Fit Into All of This? Another thing I was surprised about was WEX’s openness about Godox. To those that don’t know, prior to Bowens closing, Godox actually made the Bowens heads for many years. We as Team Bowens weren’t supposed to talk about it at the time but we also knew it was no secret. Here WEX openly says that Godox will be making the new batch of Bowens lights from the Godox factory.thedarkerwave: Could you point out the adapter you use? I'm looking for a decent horizontal mount adapter. ENDLESS LIGHT SHAPING POSSIBILITES: The Forza 60B is directly compatible with a purpose-built line of Forza 60 light modifiers, while the included Bowens S-Mount adapter expands compatibility to a massive selection of light modifiers, including but not limited to Nanlite's line of full-sized softboxes and umbrellas. Continued access to adjust light settings on touchscreen or wirelessly control from the Rotolight App Sony NP-F Style (Via BH-FZ60 Battery Grip) Battery Included: No Battery Required: No Charge Time to Full (Hours): Battery Dependant Charge Time to 80% (Hours): Battery Dependant Runtime @ 100% Brightness (Hours): 14.8V Sony V-Mount 150WH: 1.83 hours The brightness of a light is important, but without colour accuracy, a ton of time and money will be lost in post-production. The Forza 60 features a CRI of 98 and a TLCI of 95 meaning you can shoot with confidence knowing the colour reproduction will be precise.

By mounting your Bowens S-Type lighting equipment on the wall, you can free up valuable floor space in your studio. This helps create a more organized and efficient working environment, making it easier to move around and set up additional equipment. I have just been through all this. There are basically two common mounts, for more expensive modifiers (and strobes) they tend to use the bowens mount whereas the cheap modifiers are usually for the cheap Chinese strobes and they use the Elinchrom mount - I am not sure if it is actually a mount per se but really a standard diameter. Some suppliers refer to it as a 'Standard' mount. You can easily get adapters from elinchrom to bowens if you need them. I have just got a Neewer soft box to go with a Neewer 250w strobe and the total cost was less than a speedlight ! The quality of both the softbox and the strobe is really good although it would be better to keep the soft box permanently erected as I am not sure how well it would stand up to repeat de/re construction. Unless you need to use the flashes outside, then personally I do not see the point in getting more than one for use as externally as the strobes are cheaper, more powerful and cost a fraction of a speedlight to run. You do have wires across the floor though so you have to be aware of that. Saying that, I was expecting the cheap strobe to have a miserly amount of wire but not so, it is very long. The modelling light is poor and does not vary in brightness but at least it is better than a speedlight that has none. I am not sure how the strobes will be in action but 250w should be enough for me. I once had a pair of 500w bowens (Gemini ?) ones and they were just too powerful for my rooms. The Forza 60B from Nanlite is a Bicolour monolight style LED with remarkable light output relative to its small size. Weighing only 1.83 lbs, the Forza 60B employs a COB LED module with a variable colour temperature range from 2700K to 6500K. With the included reflector, the Forza 60B outputs 13830 Lux of 5600K daylight-balanced light at 1 meter. All while maintaining a high average CRI/TLCI of 96/98, ensuring accurate colour rendition. It looks like I got 9.9 mm for the height of the lug, where you got 9.7. I think that's where the difference lies. I have scrape marks across the top of it where I forced it to go on. All of them are like within .05 of each other. But apart from the mechanical challenges (the L type diameter is approx 16cm, the opening in the speedring adapter is 14cm, so some creative bending and shaping will be required) I wonder if the flash tube itself won't end up in a too shallow position inside the softbox. It already is somewhat receded in the old Bowens Mono Bronze and Solver units (I have of them myself, next to my Gemini's), and with the addition of the speedring adapter , with the softbox on top of that, may risk not protruding far enough inside the softbox. NOTE: There is a concern that, depending on the light you're using, the material of the round hole in the softbox may occluded part of the flashcube. Rotolight’s industry-first SmartSoft technology was first revealed in the flagship Rotolight Titan X2 and X1 lights and has been used on numerous feature films and by leading photographers around the world. The new SmartSoft Box, is the world’s first intelligent softbox, offering users the ability to focus and spread light without the need for gels or additional modifiers.

So what’s changed now? Well, WEX state here that the new Bowens XMT heads will not be made in the old Bowens factory (presumably that no longer exists) but instead the XMT specs will now be built in the Godox factory. It’s a small difference and it could mean nothing at all. But time will tell if the more consistent XMT head was due to its specifications or a slightly tighter quality assurance in the older Bowens factory. Peace of Mind Years ago I worked in a very busy studio that probably saw 1000 photo shoots a year go through its doors. Each of those shoots involved around 150-300 photos and every single one of those photos needed a flash. So if we say every shoot was around 200 shots on average, that studio took 200,000 flash photos a year. The studio had 5 Bowens flash heads and whilst I worked there nearly 7 years I don’t even recall replacing the flash tubes…. and the Bowens heads were there before I got there! There's a recent (Jan 2018) cohort of 16 rod Foldable/Collapsible Beautydishes - white or silver - and all using this Bowens S insert as their Bowens option. They range in size above and below 80cm - some specified in inches, flat to flat and some in cm, point to point (& optimistically, at that). I'm enjoying mine ("80cm").
