About this deal

We couldn’t write a roundup of the best sushi in London without mentioning this one. Chef Nobu Matsuhisa has conquered the globe with his innovative blend of traditional Japanese cuisine fused with Peruvian influences. I will start by saying, I love this game! Sushi Go and Sushi Go Party are both top-tier games and ones that are always a hit with gamers and non-gamers alike. Sushi Roll takes a fantastic game and turns it into a more tactile version of its former self. It’s given it a dice makeover and it works exceptionally well.

Once players have chosen one die from their conveyor belt and added it to their player board, they will pass the remaining dice and the conveyor belt to the left, receiving one from their right at the same time. Interestingly the dice you receive are rolled again before you choose one, giving you a bit more to think about. Leave the remaining cards facedown next to the board and keep your hands secret. Now you’re ready to play.I’d bet my last dumpling: you’ve heard of Sushi Go!, right? Of course you have. It’s a super-popular, super-cute card-drafting game about collecting sets of sushi. Sushi Go! (yes, it has an ‘!’) is one of the best gateway games for the card-drafting genre. Well amazing news, sushi-lovers! Sushi Roll is another excellent game set in the sushi universe! It’s a simple game that accommodates 2-5 players and only takes about 15 minutes to play. Rules for Sushi Go Sushi Roll, in a very broad sense, is quite similar to the original game. For those that have played Sushi Go before, you will find a lot of similarities within Sushi Roll. For those that have not played Sushi Go, do not worry! I will keep this review focused on Sushi Roll and treat it as though you, the reader, have not played Sushi Go before. The Game and Set Up

Set-up in Sushi Go Party is straightforward. The game board is placed in the middle of the table, and all players take a pawn of their selected colour and place it on the zero score space. The menu is created by selecting three appetisers, two specials, a roll and a dessert. Nigiri is used in all menus/games. Sushi Roll comes with thirty wonderful, chunky custom dice. These come in five different colours, but again, don’t worry about them for now. Put them all into the included draw bag, and shake it like a polaroid picture. (Woah, I haven’t heard that song in a while!) Depending on your player count, each player takes a certain number of dice, at random from the bag. Maki rolls: The player with the most gets six points. The player with the second most gets three points. In case of a tie, split the points among players. Note, you will be counting the number of Maki on the top of the card, not the total number of cards. All players repeat the process of drafting, revealing and passing until there are no more cards left to pass. When the final remaining card of each hand is passed on, place it face-up with the other cards. The round ends when there are no more cards to pass. Perhaps you’ve heard of Sushi Go by Phil Walker-Harding, and are wondering how Sushi Go Party differs. Both are by Gamewright, both are card-drafting set collection games, and both are set in a sushi restaurant, where players are ‘grabbing’ dishes as they pass on a conveyor belt. Sushi Go Party, however, offers quite a bit more to chew on of the two – it’s definitely a step up with regards to variety in gameplay and strategy. It can also play up to eight players. Sushi Go is one of the purest drafting and set collection games there is. The original was a tight set of well thought out and balanced cards that presented you with difficult choices when it came to scoring the most points. This was followed by Sushi Go Party which improved the initial offering with more options, allowing you to vary the cards used each game, extending the game life with a lot of variety, while providing the same set-up as Sushi Go if you wanted to play with those cards. Now, we have Sushi Roll! Read Also: How many types of board games are there? 20 types, explained How do you play Sushi Go Party? But where Kaia really goes to town is in its extensive sushi and sashimi offerings. There’s everything here from soft shell crab rolls to chutoro sashimi and the ‘kaia tartare’ – a mixture of salmon, tuna and seabass, avocado, served alongside salmon skin chips. There are also various different platter options, as well as nine different kinds of sake – ideal for washing it all down with.

Chef Toru Takahashi knows sushi like a real dab hand, and once he’s done slicing, dicing, and preparing the food, you’ll end up with a beautiful array of sashimi, nigiri, and sushi rolls. A huge range of seafood is employed in pursuit of sushi excellence, with tuna, shrimp, crab, and eel featuring strongly. After revealing the cards, everyone will pass the remaining cards face down to the next player (on their left). Players draft another card from their new hand. 5. RepeatWasabi card: This card triples the value of the next Nigiri you play. Only one Nigiri card may be placed on each Wasabi card. The flow of Sushi Roll is smooth. The game moves at a good pace due to the passing and rolling of dice being simultaneous. What I really like about Sushi Roll though is the competitiveness that arises from such a lightweight game! You will never have a game where all the players play nice. People will swap that one dice you desperately need. Someone will sneak some puddings onto their tray to clinch the six points. There are so many ways to mess people’s turns up and better your score and this lends so well to this game. To my tastes (pun sort-of intended), Sushi Go! works best with more players. It can work at a two-player count, but Phil Walker-Harding included a variant playing it as a twosome. It features a third ‘dummy’ player. Instead of dealing out 10 cards each during set-up, deal three hands of nine cards. (As if you were dealing for a three-player game.) Place the third hand face-down between you and your opponent.

The nigiri are white; they’re listed in the top row on your Tray. There’s five nigiri dice. Nigiri come in three different types: egg, salmon, and squid. These are straight-up VP – no set collection required. Among the six faces on a nigiri die, two are egg, three are salmon, and one is squid. Each egg nigiri is worth 1VP; each salmon nigiri is worth 2VP; and each squid nigiri is worth 3VP Specials – The Ace In The Hole Another worthy addition to this list of the best sushi in London, this Asian-Pacific-inspired restaurant is set within the famous London hotel, The Ned, and specialises in fresh and healthy food. As you’d expect from a classy restaurant hotel, it’s pretty damn good – there are poke bowls, robata grill dishes, fried udon noodles, miso aubergine and so much more. Place the rest of the cards face-down pile in the middle of the play area. Grab something to keep score with, like a pencil and paper or use a notes app in your phone. After the third and final round, tally up the total number of points from each round. Also, count the number of pudding cards from each player. If you want to strategize it, I find that the Wasabi card with a Squid Nigiri multiplier is the most valuable combo, averaging 4.5 points for just two cards.Inamo is the world’s first restaurant with interactive tables, and it’s clearly lightyears ahead of its competitors. It’s also got some incredible food on tap – you’ll find a fusion of different Asian cuisines – Japanese, Chinese, Korean and Thai food are all on the menu. Sushi Go is a fun card drafting game themed around getting the best combination of sushi dishes. The best part is, learning how to play Sushi Go is very easy! The game consists of three rounds. At the start of each round, once the cards have been dealt, each player takes a card they want to keep and then place it face-down in front of them. Once all players have done this you all reveal your chosen card at the same time. Once you have revealed your cards, the remaining hand gets passed on to the player on your left and your chosen cards remain face-up in front of you.
