About this deal

Whether you choose strips, powder, gel or cream, all denture adhesives work in more or less the same way. Denture adhesives work by firstly, forming a strong bond with your dentures. And, secondly, they adhere to your gums to enhance the natural suction that holds your dentures in place. Cushion Grip is a thermoplastic denture adhesive, and it's designed to add a soft layer to your dentures for greater comfort, at the same time providing a more secure fit. The tube needs to be placed in hot water before use, to soften the adhesive enough to apply to your dentures. It should stay in place for up to 4 days, after which you should place your dentures in warm water for 10-20 minutes before peeling off the plastic. The two most popular options are Poligrip Denture Adhesive Powder and Ultra Wernets Denture Fixative Powder. Poligrip is owned by GSK whereas Wernet’s is Distributed by Omega Pharma Ltd. They come in the same size, shape, and colour bottle. The listed ingredients are the same, and the texture is the same. In some places, Ultra Wernets is also labelled as Poligrip Ultra Wernets. Fortunately, most denture adhesives in the UK are now zinc-free. In fact, only one of the mainstream brands featured below (Fixodent) still contains zinc. It is perfectly safe when used as instructed, but if you're reapplying it several times a day, you may be putting yourself at risk. These denture adhesive strips from Poligrip work in a similar way to Seadent, but they come in thin strips. They can be used for full upper and lower dentures as well as partials. You may need to cut them down to avoid overlapping the strips, but any excess can be kept for another time.

Generally, there is little research comparing how good they are, and the studies which do exist focus on complete dentures. Poligrip Power Hold + Seal can be used on all types of dentures; full or partials, metal or plastic. So it really is suitable for everyone. Bonyf Denture Relining Cushion, Cushion Grip Thermoplastic Denture Adhesive, DentTemp Reline It, FittyDent (Secure) Waterproof Denture Adhesive Strips, OlivaFix Denture Relining Cushion They are zinc-free, like Poligrip's other denture adhesives, and help to seal out food particles – although a full seal will depend on your placement of the strips. Do not use if you are allergic to any of the ingredients. If you experience an allergic reaction or discomfort, discontinue immediately. The same care instructions apply: clean and dry your partial denture before applying denture adhesive, and be sure to rinse it after use to remove any residual glue. Some denture adhesive can damage the metal surface. Only use denture adhesive that specifically says it is safe for use with metal dentures. This powder gives a better all over fix compared to using a paste. After applying the powder, dip the whole denture in a bowl of water to improve the overall fit within the mouth. There are also some natural denture adhesives which avoid the petrochemical ingredients traditionally used for adhesion. You can read more details below. Cost Most people classify denture adhesives according to what form they are sold in (gels, creams, powders, strips, cushions).

The fixative (reline material) comes in a tube. It does need to be squeezed from the tube, after the tube has been warmed in hot water. A key is supplied to make it easier to squeeze the tube. It is not as simple as squirting straight onto the denture, and the directions do need to be followed to get the best fit. Both have numerous options available, and I have summarised them below (note that the names do change regularly and not all of them might be available in your country): If you have a partial denture, any of the aforementioned products should work to secure it in place and keep food particles out. You can buy Poligrip strips and cut them to the right size to fit. Or, just apply a cream or powder in the same way as for a full denture. If you find you are using denture adhesive all the time, it is worth booking an appointment with your dentist to see if there is anything they can do to improve the retention of your denture. It can be difficult to compare denture adhesive prices side-by-side, since you need to consider the cost per usage rather than the overall cost of the product. When buying a cream or powder, the amount you use each time will depend on the size and shape of your dentures. FormSuper Wernets is a denture adhesive powder that has been recommended by dentists for over 25 years. It combines two denture adhesive ingredients - one for holding the dentures, the other to help cushion the dentures more securely and comfortably. Wernets Denture fixative powder ultra Wernets gives a stronger, longer lasting hold providing you with confidence and control. This ideal formula also helps prevent irritating food particles from getting under your plate. The following table explains this further. Note that these are rough guides and that you should always follow the manufacturer’s instructions. Type
