About this deal

One last thing to do: Stitch a button onto the case to close the flap. Since this is the last thing you do, it will be totally easy to test where the best place for the button is. No measuring, just close the pencil case flap and see where you need it. Bamm! You've nailed it! The beauty of this Pencil Case DIY is that you can make it in any color you want and embellish it on top with anything of your choice! The possibilities are endless.

This DIY felt pencil case is one of the few pieces that allow you to complete the project even after you've searched through the stash and realized that you've run out of nearly all felt. Also a great scrap buster! It's easy to make and it looks cute - with just like half an hour of your time and a few small pieces of felt. Let's have a closer look and see how to start. Supplies to Sew a Diy Felt Pencil case Turn the fabric pieces so that the outer fabrics are on one side and lining pieces are on the other side of the zipper. Refer picture below Fold the rectangle up approximately 6 inches (or measure against the pencils if yours are not a standard size). The tips of the color pencils will peek out from the case when open, like in the photo above. Talk easy-to-find! Step 3 - Make The FlapThis project was inspired by something I saw in a magazine a long time ago. It looked so simple that I had to try making my own! Cut out the Pattern Pieces: Step 5Get the bag out of the lining through the hole in lining – remember to clip the corners before doing this – if you want sharp corners. Stitch the hole closed after everything is as it should be. 3. Small Pencil Case Pattern You'll hem one narrow end of the stripe (here, the yellow part). I used a ½ inch seam allowance and made two straight stitches to make a firm hem. (Don't use a twin needle! More on that later.) I loved every minute of making it and I think you will too. It will surely add a touch of sunshine to the new school year! Diy Felt Pencil Case Step 3Now to join the other side fabric pieces – Place the other remaining lining piece face up on the table. Keep the already prepared pouch piece with zipper attached on top of this, face up as in the picture below.

Step 3 Fold the fabric and join the remaining zipper edge to the other edge of the fabric as in the picture below. Step 4 Join the two pieces of felt by topstitching along the edge. Make a decorative stitch if you want a fancy pouch. Sew the pieces together. Topstitching is optional but it makes the finished pencil case look better. Dimensions of the rectangle required for the felt pencil case: 4inch by 18 inch (for standard size of pencils)For example, I used these pieces of felt: Make a fun Friendship Bracelet Style Bookmarkfor your bestie with this step-by-step tutorial from Erica of 5 Little Monsters.Join a few scraps of felt and make a simple patchwork and use it to make a colorful diy felt pencil case. So much fun! Hydration is super important, so do it in style with Personalized Water Bottles. Marissa of Rae Gunn Ramblingshas the full tutorial on her blog. To make a flap for the felt pencil case, you'll fold it twice. The photo is kind of self-explanatory. Just make sure the pencil case flap makes an overlap of at least an inch (but preferrably two). If not, you won't be able to use the button for closing the pencil case.

Step 5Pinch one of the corners and sew across one inch from the corner. Remember to keep the seam allowance open as you sew. To keep the buttonhole from stretching, all you need to do is secure both ends of the buttonhole: Use short straight stitches on a sewing machine or simply make a few hand stitches. (The latter will usually take even less of your time than machine stitching.) Step 6 - Attach a Button

Simply fold the flap in half (lengthwise) and cut into the space between the straight sttiches. Mind the size of the button you'll use for the pencil case. You've just cut a button hole. Step 2 Keep one of the lining fabric face up on table. Keep the zipper face up along the long edge. Place the outer fabric face down on top of this. Refer picture below. If you are really in a hurry and your kid needs a pencil pouch super fast you can make a simple pouch with felt this way. How to make the felt fabric pencil pouch Sew several pieces of felt scraps together to form a long narrow rectangle, actually a stripe. Your choice of colors and forms - creativity at its best! This is a boxy pencil box- just right to carry a lot of pens and pencils. Increase dimensions if you want a bigger size.

Step 4 Keep the tube you have now flattened and arrange the zipper to the center. Stitch the side edges closed. There are no zippers to figure out either- instead we’ll make an easy flap that closes securely!
