About this deal

The Z cameras automatically apply a DX crop and everything looks great as you shoot; unlike with a DSLR, the DX image always fills the finder. My Z7 does not show the effects of distortion correction as I'm composing as the EOSR does, and worse, the Z7 often only partially corrects the distortion of lenses on the FTZ adapter. All of Sigma’s newest lenses have a built-in autofocus motor, so they will autofocus with the Nikon FTZ adapter without issue. (This includes every lens listed above.) However, some of the oldest and discontinued Sigma lenses do not have a built-in motor, so they will not autofocus with the FTZ. NIKON Z7 + Sigma Macro 105mm f/2.8 @ 105mm, ISO 450, 1/800, f/6.3 Tamron Brand Lenses Nikon got cheap and didn't include an autofocus motor in the FTZ, so there is no autofocus with AF‑D (screw-type AF) lenses still sold new today like the 14/2.8D, 16/2.8D Fisheye, 35/2D, 50/1.4D, 80-200/2.8D, 105/2DC, 135/2DC and many more.

These are 50-year-old lenses that Nikon warns may have mechanical interference and not be able to mount. Go ahead and try — carefully — and see what happens with them. If they mount, and most of them just might, you'll get VR, metering and A and M exposure modes: Employs an optical vibration reduction function with an effect equivalent to a shutter speed 5.5 stops faster, which is the highest among NIKKOR Z lenses. Among 100-400 mm zoom lenses with a maximum aperture of f/4.5-5.6 for full-frame (Nikon FX-format) digital cameras with interchangeable lenses available as of October 28, 2021. Statement based on Nikon research.

The only “gotcha” with the new Nikkor Z lens designs, is that they get automatic distortion corrections both in-camera and Lightroom that cannot be turned off. (Some software like Capture One allows you to disable them, though.) Lenses like the Nikon Z 14-30mm f/4 S and 24-70mm f/4 S specifically have quite a bit of software correction built-in that hides the huge amounts of distortion it exhibits. Nikon Z Mount Roadmap

In terms of sample variance, all four of the Nikon 24-70mm f/4 S copies turned out to have very similar performance, which indicates that Nikon’s quality control has indeed increased dramatically for the S-series lenses. Having tested such lenses as the Nikon 24-120mm f/4G VR in the past, I know that sample variance can play a huge role in the overall performance of a lens. I used to own a superb copy of the 24-120mm, but I have previously seen some samples that had completely unacceptable sharpness and decentering issues. The same goes for other zoom lenses like the Nikon 16-35mm f/4G VR. Users of the Z6II and other Z-series cameras released in or after November, 2020, should install this update if the camera displays a message prompting them to update the FTZ mount adapter firmware.

Focal ratio: Here’s the one and major disadvantage of teleconverters: TCs make your lens less bright. You lose one stop with the ZC-1.4x and two stops with the TC-2.0x. So the Nikon Z 70-200mm f2.8 VR S becomes a 98-280mm f4.0 lens on the TC-1.4x and a 140-400mm f5.6 lens on the TC-2.0x. [-] Image stabilization, auto focus, additional functions: Everything works as expected as the teleconverters don’t interfere with the functions and features of the attached lens. EXIF data for focal length and aperture are adapted and the identifier for the lens also reflects the use of TCs. Even the display of the Z 70-200mm f2.8 VR S shows the correct values for aperture and focal length. [+] The score in the “features-department” is 2[-]/5[0]/6[+]. The biggest disadvantage when using teleconverters is the reduction in focal ratio by 1 stop for the TC-1.4x and 2 stops for the TC-2.0x. But that is the laws of optics at work – and not the fault of Nikon. The other [-] is the inability to use the new TCs in combination with the FTZ-adapter. Not sure how good the image quality would have been. But Nikon deliberately precluded this combination so we will never know. You may also not like the relatively high price compared to the street price of Nikon’s F-mount TCs. But if the optics are good the teleconverters are worth their money.

The first super-telephoto zoom lens in the NIKKOR Z lineup that covers a focal length range from 100 to 400mm.

According to Sigma, this is the current compatibility list where autofocus and exposure works as expected: falconeyes, said "Having an AF motor in the body was a brilliant idea". Wow, I guess that is why the AF motor in the body is prevailing tech now, huh? SP 15-30mm F/2.8 Di VC USD G2 (Model A041): Serial number 004219 or higher or firmware 2.0 or higher

A pretty impressive difference! And if you’re wondering whether you can achieve the same results by simply cropping: Yes, you can. To achieve the same angle of view of the TC-2.0x you simply need to crop the image without TC by a factor of two. But then you’re losing 75% of pixels and end up with an 11MP photo instead of the original 45MP. Which might well be enough for the intended print or viewing size: a modern 4k Monitor only has 8MP and printing an 11MP photo at a very fine pixel-density of 240 dpi still yields a print of 17×11 in. or 44 x 29cm.

F1.4 DG HSM | Art ( Previously, would overexpose occasionally when stopping down the aperture from f/5.6.) very little about what is actually interesting - how Nikon managed to re-work and re-design the motor in the FTZ.
