About this deal

As the paint is made for multi-use across a variety of floors including garage workshops and factories, you can be sure that it will last year as long, if not longer, than some of the more popular brands. Like all floor paint you want to PVA first, sorry use a specified concrete sealer that’s way more expensive than watered down PVA 😉 A little bit of research on substituting PVA for concrete sealer will have ones eyes firmly opened. Thank me later 🙂

We advise you to apply Polar Acid Etch Primer before painting to increase surface abrasion, and clean and protect the concrete surface prior to the paint being applied. Clean all equipment with white spirit immediately after use to help preserve and maintain the quality of brushes, rollers etc. The semi-gloss finish of the paint serves as a resist to oil and grease. The manufacturer states that hot vehicle tyres won’t pull the paint up from the floor to transfer to them. This paint does, however, take much longer to dry than others we review, at between 14 to 16 hours. You shouldn’t be in a hurry to use the garage and walk on the floor. But when the floor is all dry, it really stands up to a lot of cleaning. Don’t panic if you notice the smell lingering for a few weeks, when you compare this to the other paints in the review it is totally normal, you should be pretty much smell free after about a month or so.

This Ronseal garage floor paint is made up of a unique water-based acrylic formula which has been developed specifically for use on garage floors.

Ventilation – for your health and safety, ensure the area is well ventilated, (this will also improve drying time). Top tip once you find the right garage floor paint to avoid disaster: Now it’s super important to realise that during the curing process, damp or humidity can be a disaster for polyurethane paint. It can literally ruin your coat of paint. So make sure your area stays free from moisture, at least while the curing process occurs. This differs considerably when compared to epoxy garage floor paint which cures differently but given it’s less resistant to scratch and scuffs I have steered away from those in this review to an extent. Polyurethane is better for most home use as well as commercial, it’s the type of paint you’ll often see in a garage – ideal to protect against spills of oil and grease – as you would expect from a garage floor paint!

After following the manufacturers guide, it’s time to repeat part one and apply the second coat. Make sure the first coat is fully dried before this step otherwise you won’t get your desired finish. It’s Time to Wait: Part Two Priming isn’t required but similar to Leyland, you should dilute the paint by 10% with white spirit for the first coat. After the 2 coats are applied (give it a day or so before applying the second coat) you’ll be left with a clean and smooth light grey finish. Features This is one of the best garage floor paints on the market and offers incredible value for money. Per litre it’s as cheap as any other whilst providing a quality finish you’d expect to get from something much more expensive. Overall fantastic paint. With a coverage of up to 60m² / 5 litres, this paint is cost effective and should comfortably cover 2 coats’ worth.

If your paint starts to peel after a number of days or weeks, it’s because it didn’t dry properly. New concrete floors

If you’ve only just laid your cement or concrete, we’d recommend waiting several months before painting with this particular paint for best results. Features By choosing the best paint for the job you’ve already won half the battle. Strictly follow the guidelines on your tin of paint and you can’t go far wrong. Get Prices for a Professional Decorator Near You Now you’ve decided on your paint, what comes next? Painting a garage floor is no small task and the key is in your preparation. As the old adage goes “fail to prepare, prepare to fail.” You don’t want to spend good money and effort on painting your garage floor if the result is flaking paint or paint that comes off easily.

Pay attention to the drying time, but a good rule of thumb is leaving a day before you walk on the floor, and a week before you drive a car over it. For your first coat, dilute with up to 10% white spirit and allow to dry between 16-24 hours. After this time, you can apply a second coat. Drying time for each coat is given as six to eight hours dry to the touch and completely dry in 24 hours. However, some online reviewers argue with this, reporting that their floors took about a week to dry and weren’t fully dry after a couple of months. The manufacturer, however, states that the drying times they give are dependent on well ventilated and dry conditions. So make sure that you paint in a dry season and use fans to move air across the painted floor.
