About this deal

I suppose the thing that irritates me, as it did with the last book, is that Veronica Henry seems to be obsessed with label, and material things. All of her characters are wealthy, upper class people (with the exception of just one) and seem to be able to throw money at everything. Staying on in Venice for a few more days, on a whim, is no problem. And Luc...oh Luc. How to describe him without giving away any spoilers? Hmmmm... He's definitely a character that is quiet and unassuming but has so much depth to him. His interactions with Julia from the beginning, sigh. And their different adventures were so fun to be along with them on while reading. I loved them together. The tender looks. The sweet friendship that grew even through the misunderstandings.

I think my favorite part of this book is that Ms. Johnson wrote this in such a way to make me truly believe that Freya and Erich could not live without music. And I believed that Freya was immensely gifted. I am no great musician by any stretch of the imagination but I have attended musical and dance performances where a gift like that was obvious to the audience. And the descriptions in the book were completely believable. From Russia with Love (1963): James Bond, along with Bond girl Tatiana Romanova and ally Ali Kerim Bey, tries to travel on the Orient Express from Istanbul to Trieste, but complications involving SPECTRE assassin Red Grant force Bond and Tatiana to jump off the train in Yugoslav Istria. Not only is the setting enchanting, but the main characters, Freya and Erich are as well. The mystery behind Erich when Freya sees him for the first time, or several times. She wants to be daring but she is still a lady traveling alone. But those smiles across the room, sharing a few stolen glimpses now and then, as well as his kindnesses from afar...happy sigh. All the moments familiar to musicians are captured in this book from the jealous competitor, to the fun impromptu concerts in the hallways of the boardinghouse, to the competitive camaraderie, to that sense of accomplishment when you know you’ve done your best. All of this was perfectly rendered in this book. There’s also the struggle Freya goes through to establish herself as a premier musician worthy of the Maestro’s notice, and to prove to her parents she has true talent. One of the primary focuses of the film is the relationship between Lily and Howard. Howard is mysterious, handsome, and captivating, and Lily falls for him immediately. She is drawn to him, and we are drawn to him as well. The chemistry between the two actors is incredible, and their love story is one of the highlights of the movie.

Orient Expressions, a musical group from Turkey who combine traditional Turkish music with elements of electronica, take their name from the train service. Song of Salzburg by Jen Geigle Johnson was simply smashing, and I absolutely loved it! The writing is beautiful and articulate. Practically lyrical. The onset of the First World War in 1914 saw Orient Express services suspended. They resumed at the end of hostilities in 1918, and in 1919 the opening of the Simplon Tunnel allowed the introduction of a more southerly route via Milan, Venice, and Trieste. The service on this route was known as the Simplon Orient Express, and it ran in addition to continuing services on the old route. The Treaty of Saint-Germain contained a clause requiring Austria to accept this train: formerly, Austria allowed international services to pass through Austrian territory (which included Trieste at the time) only if they ran via Vienna. The Simplon Orient Express soon became the most important rail route between Paris and Istanbul. [13] Badge of the Compagnie Internationale des Wagons-Lits on a car of the Orient ExpressSo, that dream is over. It would probably have been full of toffs anyway. The toffs in this story are something else! Wrong Train to Paris is the second book in the Romance on the Orient Express series. I really hope to read the others. Lily Parker is a sophisticated American magazine editor on a business trip in Europe with her outgoing best friend Susan Lawson. Susan persuades her to travel from Venice to Paris by train, rather than by plane. They board the Orient Express, where Susan hopes to find romance. Meanwhile, the atmosphere reminds Lily of a train trip 10 years earlier, when she was a 19-year-old college student traveling through Europe with her friend Stacey. On that trip she met Alex Woodward, an aristocratic Englishman who courted her but then disappeared completely. There's a bit of mystery of who the Salzburg Maestro is. But the reader has enough hints throughout the beginning that they will guess and think they know who it is but there's enough little questions you'll have to see the big reveal at the end. And let me tell you, the ending is fabulous, just like the whole book. I can't recommend you reading this book enough. Grab all of the books in this delightful series and be transported to several fun places aboard The Orient Express. You'll be soaring right along with me.

Eastern & Oriental Express, A Belmond Train | Luxury Trains, Asia". www.belmond.com . Retrieved 16 October 2022. When talented violinist Freya Winter is chosen to take part in a musical celebration alongside some of the best instrumentalists in the world, she is thrilled. Performing in front of royalty is a breathtaking opportunity, but her true motivation for traveling to Salzburg is to fulfill an unlikely dream: to meet and train under the renowned Salzburg Maestro, a master musician shrouded in mystery. From Russia, with Love (1957), a James Bond novel by Ian Fleming, sees Bond travel from Istanbul to Venice aboard the Simplon Orient Express. I also love the surprises at the end, and that both characters find their happiness and purpose in life. So sweet! The overarching theme of the OE, the mystical Nicholas, and his ability to be able to help deliver these lost passengers to a future that they secretly were hoping for, is so ingenious. I loved every minute of it! Everything in this story I loved from the rich and detailed descriptions of Salzburg and it's mountains, to the beautiful streets of Paris. The cast of characters is also so wonderfully written, even down to Freya's stubborn parents, her loving Grandmother, her best friend Gertie, and her musical rival, Eliza.

This book takes place in France between rural Provence and city center Paris during the spring of 1900. Will her father's patience with Freya run out before she can conclude her lessons in Salzburg? Will Freya get her dream to meet the Salzburg Maestro before she has to return home? Will Freya find out more about the mysterious Erich? SPOILERS**** I was prepared for this one to be a drippingly saccharine bit of foolishness, although somehow it manages to transcend that, but the script is weak and predictable. With some beautiful on-location scenes in Venice and Paris, and the luxury of the famous Orient Express, it's as good as any Barbara Taylor Bradford TV movie for a wet afternoon. I love that through a simple mistake of boarding a different train, Julia’s destiny is changed. I loved it when Luc rescues her, introduces her to the wonderful, relaxed, and picturesque landscapes and pace of life at his home. Gabi is a sweet and welcoming hostess, knowing just what Julia needs: a purpose, home, and love. I love the transformation of both Luc and Julia throughout this story. Both have their faults, both seem to bring out the best in one another, and both have amazing chemistry. It was such a sweet and romantic journey. Gavin Stamp's Orient Express: in 2007 UK's Five broadcast an arts/travel series which saw the historian journey from Paris to Istanbul along the old Orient Express route.
