About this deal

Epimax ® oatmeal cream and Zeroveen ® cream are additionally recommended for use as a soap substitute.

As an emollient: Children under 1: Seek HCP advice before use. Adults and children: Apply to the affected area of skin as required. AproDerm Colloidal Oat Cream, a light, paraffin-free emollient which has all the benefits of colloidal oat including protecting and restoring the skin barrier, soothing the itch, irritation and redness associated with dry skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis, as well as having humectant properties and maintaining the skin’s normal pH. As well as being a moisturiser it can also be used as an effective soap substitute, to prevent the skin from drying out further. Agreed GREY non formulary for NEW PATIENTS (APC Jan 2020). Other creams available as soap substitutes and leave on emollients. Rarely, mild allergic reactions such as skin rash can occur. You can buy emollients from a pharmacy without a prescription. If the skin condition is severe, talk to a GP, nurse or health visitor, as you may need a stronger treatment. First line - Balneum ® Plus Cream (100g tube) - also contains lauromacrogols. Use only if emollient alone has not helped itching. Use in confirmed staphylococcal infection e.g. recurrent folliculitis and impetiginised eczema as per Notts Emollient Formulary. At SFH if needed for other uses eg for lips, then use yellow soft paraffin, available from NHS supplies. Zerocream Emollient is used for the relief of symptoms of flaking, dry skin, ichthyosis, dermatitis, the dry stage of eczema and dry cases of psoriasis. It can be used as an alternative to soap. Excetra ® cream is formulary option for moderately dry skin as per Notts Emollient Formulary. (APC Sep19) Be careful not to slip when using emollients in a bath or shower, or on a tiled floor. Protect the floor with a non-slip mat, towel or sheet. Wear protective gloves, wash your bath or shower afterwards with hot water and washing-up liquid, then dry with a kitchen towel. Skin irritation from aqueous cream If your skin stings after using an emollient wash product and does not settle after rinsing, ask a pharmacist to recommend a different product. Using emollients with other skin treatments Eucerin ®UreaRepair Plus lotion can be used if lotion required however it has been registered as ‘cosmetic’ rather than as medicines which means that it is notavailable on prescription.liquid paraffin 40% w/w, white soft paraffin 30% w/w, cetearyl alcohol and polysorbate 60. Indications: Everyday soaps, shampoos and shower gels usually dry out the skin and can make skin conditions like eczema worse. AproDerm Gel is a highly moisturising gel, without the greasiness of an ointment, which actively draws and retains moisture within the skin and provides a protective barrier to help reduce dryness and irritation. It is also an effective pre-bathing emollient so can be applied to skin prior to bathing to prevent it from drying out even further, whilst protecting it from the irritant effects that can be caused by washing and bathing products such as soaps, shower gels and shampoos.
