The bus unveiling in Carlisle was attended by Stagecoach’s two main painters; Stephen Temple, 53 and Stephen Douglas, 61 both from Morton, who along with paint shop labourer Mark Maddison, 48 from Botcherby spent an entire week painting the vehicle ready for its crowning moment.
The Coronation Class of locomotives, correctly known as Princess Coronation Class, was made up of streamlined and un-streamlined locomotives. From Friday, five London buses will feature commemorative wraps on routes serving locations linked to the royal family, such as Horse Guards Parade and Hyde Park. To have celebrated a platinum jubilee so closely followed by a coronation is a rare occurrence and for most Cumbrians, this is the first time they will have experienced a coronation, so we felt it was an important event to mark. The Coronation Choir, a diverse group that will be created from the nation’s keenest community choirs and amateur singers from across the UK, such as refugee choirs, NHS choirs, LGBTQ+ singing groups and deaf signing choirs, will also make an appearance.
Public transport remains the best way to travel in London during the Coronation weekend and is at the heart of making this historic occasion a success, just like it did when London saw the 1953 Coronation of Elizabeth II. With no planned engineering closures, I hope people make the most of the public transport options to enjoy the bank holiday."Envoy Avenuein the Hatton Cross area is closed westbound while roadworks take place. Routes 90 towards Feltham, 285 towards Kingston and 423 heading towards Hounslow are diverted via the Eastern Perimeter Road and will be unable to serve bus stop M on Envoy Avenue, No change to buses in the eastbound direction.The closure will be in place until the end of January 2024. Route 394 is diverting from Cropley Street via Eagle Wharf Road, New North Road, Baring Street, Bridport Place and Poole Street to New North Road. No stops will be missed. Buses towards Islington Angel will not be divertingand will remain on normal line of route. The diversion will now be in place until Summer 2024.
