To turn on the Looftlighter, press down the button and hold it. It’s a dead man’s switch, meaning when you let go, it turns off. Definitely a necessary safety feature! The Looftlighter uses electric heat and air to ignite fuel. There’s no flame, and not even gas to put nasty flavors on your food. Neither of these issues changes anything functionally though and you can keep on using the Eggniter with a slightly discolored or melted head shield so they are not huge problems. All kinds of fuel. It will light all kinds of solid fuels such as; charcoal, briquettes, wood logs, pellets and other. You’ll need about 2 hours to charge an empty battery fully. Of course, you don’t have to wait that long to use the Looft Lighter X if you’re in a rush. The best thing to do is just leave it on the charger all the time, so you know it’s ready whenever you need it. Having said that, this will be an honest, unbiased test and assessment. I am not about to waste anyone’s money — or risk my credibility — by recommending something I wouldn’t buy myself. If your lighter won’t start we have a 2-year warranty covering manufacturing defects. Due to our safety standards, we only replace, not repair our products. With the Looftlighter, you light a fire in 60 seconds. You can then leave the charcoal to get ready on its own (takes approximately 20 minutes) or you can continue using the lighter and fast-forward the process, which makes the fire ready in 4-5 minutes depending on the quality of the charcoal. This will make the fire spread more naturally with your hands being a good distance away. However, the Eggniter’s biggest shortcoming is that it only comes with a 6-foot cord.
