About this deal

These materials are, by nature, highly dispersive, hence light passing around a "cloaked" object would be strongly refracted ( prisms are not invisible). That is a children's tale, told to amuse rather than to instruct. Those of us who understand these matters, however, recognise that the ancient story refers to three objects, or Hallows, which, if united, will make the possessor Master of Death." — Xenophilius Lovegood's overview of the Hallows [src] After Luna distracted everyone in the aftermath of the battle, Harry used the Cloak to find Ron and Hermione and tell them everything that had happened. The silvered half of the mirror, which is completely reflective, bounces the projected image toward the person wearing the cloak. In the 20th century, the Cloak eventually ended up in the hands of Henry Potter, a Wizengamot member, who passed it to his eldest son Fleamont. Fleamont was the father of James Potter, Harry Potter's father. [3] James used the Cloak of Invisibility in many of his misdeeds at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and kept it afterwards. Around the time that Lord Voldemort was hunting the Potters for their son, the Cloak of Invisibility came to the attention of Albus Dumbledore when James showed him the Cloak. Dumbledore, who had searched for the Deathly Hallows in youth, asked to borrow the Cloak from James to study it. After James was killed, the Cloak was left in Dumbledore's possession. [4]

Although powerful, the Cloak of Invisibility was not infallible. While the Cloak itself resisted spell damage, it did not shield the wearer from spells used against them personally. For example, Harry was immobilised while under the Cloak twice during the 1996–1997 school year with the Full Body-Bind Curse. [8] [9] Harry witnessed Dumbledore's death while immobilised under the Cloak. He left the cloak at the top of the Astronomy Tower and presumably retrieved it later. [9]

Cloaks of invisibility also exist in the Harry Potter series of novels by J.K. Rowling. [12] Harry Potter uses a Cloak of Invisibility, that was passed down to him by his father, to sneak into forbidden areas of his school and remain unseen. It is later revealed that this specific cloak was once owned by Death himself, making it one of the Deathly Hallows. [ citation needed]Sean Markey (2006-10-19). During his life, Tom Riddle possessed two of the Deathly Hallows. He was never aware of this fact, believing to only possess the "Wand of Destiny." Dumbledore speculated that Riddle is unaware of the existence of the Deathly Hallows as a whole (seeing his narrow-minded personality) or that if he were, he would be disinterested in them except the Elder Wand. Photograph: Courtesy of Vollebak Though perfect cloaking based on invisible paint is impossible if detectors (such as microphones) and sources (such as loudspeakers) are placed round a volume and if a particular formula is used to calculate the signals to be fed to the sources, perfect cloaking is possible. Such perfect cloaking does require that the information can flow through the volume fast enough and the calculations can be performed fast enough so that the necessary information can get to the sources on the far side of the volume fast enough. As a result, perfect cloaking for light is still probably at least very difficult if not impossible. For sound waves, though, such perfect cloaking is possible in principle; an object could therefore be made invisible to sonar, for example. Ignotus used the cloak to remain hidden from Death for a long time. When he was an old man, he passed the cloak onto his son, greeted Death as an old friend, and went with him to the next world. [1]

The Invisibility Cloak is used by Harry and sometimes the Trio, frequently in situations that need them to discreetly travel to places. The first instance of its use is when Harry is trying to sneak into the Restricted Section of the library at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The next instance is when Harry takes Ron to see the Mirror of Erised where they both hide under the cloak. The first instance that Harry, Hermione, and Ron all use the cloak is when they go to protect the Philosopher’s Stone (Sorcerer’s Stone) at the end of the first novel. Cloaks of invisibility are magical items found in folklore and fairy tales. Such cloaks are common in Welsh mythology; a "Mantle of Invisibility" is described in the tale Culhwch and Olwen (c.1100) as one of King Arthur's most prized possessions. [1] The mantle is described again, and in more detail, [1] in the Breuddwyd Rhonabwy, and is later listed as one of the Thirteen Treasures of the Island of Britain. A similar mantle appears in the Second Branch of the Mabinogi, in which it is used by Caswallawn to assassinate the seven stewards left behind by Bran the Blessed and usurp the throne. [1] [2]

On the Astronomy Tower

In the Deathly Hallows book, Harry uses the Elder Wand to repair his wand, then places it in Dumbledore's crypt. In the experiment, the researchers heated the sheets electrically, which transferred the heat to the surrounding area (a petri dish of water). This caused light to bend away from the carbon nanotube sheet, effectively cloaking anything behind it with invisibility. Listen to me,’ said Snape, his voice so low now that Harry had to push his ear very hard against the keyhole to hear. ‘I am trying to help you. I swore to your mother I would protect you. I made the Unbreakable Vow, Draco –’
