My mum’s having therapy, apparently. That’s what she told me in her last text. Her doctor is treating this is as personal trauma.” I have nothing else to add, other than this book has absolutely nothing in common with anything written by Lisa Jewell at all. The comment on the publicity blurb, 'perfect for the fans of Lisa Jewell' was what initially attracted me, but couldn't be further from the truth.

I am excited to be taking part in the #BooksOnTour #BlogTour for Rona Halsall's latest compelling thriller #TheGuestRoom. Think about your guests' needs and preferences. If you have any specific requests, be sure to let them know in advance so they can be prepared. She is an outdoorsy person and loves stomping up a mountain, walking the coastal paths and exploring the wonderful glens and beaches on the Island while she's plotting her next book. She has three children and two step-children who are all grown up and leading varied and interesting lives, which provides plenty of ideas for new stories.

He blends in well. His wavy blond hair flops onto his temples, messy yet styled. His hands are big but with elegant fingers. There’s something two-toned about him, as if he’s hovering between edges. Confident-shy, intense-calm, muscular-slim. I’m not sure which. Heartbreaking. . . . I won’t give away of the surprising twists and turns that The Guest Roomtakes on the path to Bohjalian’s daring conclusion; I’ll only note that much of the pleasure that comes from reading any well-constructed narrative lies in trying to anticipate how the author will write himself out of seemingly inescapable corners. But here, for a change, we also have a novelist who seems more concerned with examining and dramatizing a much more universal question: whether, in the end, any amount of love or compassion, retreat or nobility or forgiveness, can overcome the remorseless workings of evil.”— The San Francisco ChronicleI walk into the road and follow the white lines down the middle. My throat is dry. I swallow another mouthful of wine. I blink hard, the phone’s light flashing in my vision. I realize that my phone is acting as a beacon. Here I am, come and get me. The perfect drawing power. But I bet if I held it up high until the sun rose nothing would happen. It would be another dud. Nalika looks at me from behind seventies disc sunglasses, the lenses mirrored. I can’t tell her the truth—that I grazed it on Tooting Common at two in the morning. I’ve been roaming the streets for over two hours. I was in the flat all day, trying to do translations, but as the afternoon wore on, I couldn’t concentrate. Dejection rising like water in a bath. I had to get out.

When Tess is forced to rent out her late sister’s old room to pay the bills, the urge to rummage through her guests’ belongings overtakes her every thought. Teasing herself with forbidden glimpses into the lives of strangers is a momentary thrill, but it’s the closest she’s felt to anyone since the mysterious death of her sister, Rosie.

Success!

Those women? Two 19-year-olds from Armenia, abducted as teenagers, held captive as sex slaves in Russia throughout their adolescence, and then brought to New York City where the captors know their value as sexual assets will soar.

The Guest Room by Rona Halsall is a thriller novel. The story in The Guest Room is one that is told mainly from one point of view but there are a few changes to the point of view along the way.I can’t help but smile. She must have seen my expression as I stared at my G&T. The best thing about Nalika is she knows how to be normal. To not shuffle her feet around me or clear her throat in search of something to say. There’s a shoe in the branches above. Laceless. One of those ambiguous hybrids—half heel, half sneaker, with a gold sheen. It’s glinting through the leaves, reflecting the dim city light. This novel consists of 46 chapters. The chapters are short to medium in length so possible to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!
