These are impressive stats, but the cynic in me still doesn’t quite believe that any tool powered by heat won’t damage the hair at least a little bit. Instead of saying it doesn’t cause any damage at all, I would lean towards saying that the ghd Duet Styler results in reduced damage compared to using a separate hairdryer and straightener. Keep in mind too that even air drying your hair, which is widely considered to be the kindest option, can still cause some damage. This is because our strands are weaker when they’re wet and are therefore more prone to snagging and snapping caused by things like brushing, combing and friction on your pillow. So with all of that said, I want to now explain why the GHD Duet Style isn't going to become my daily tool. Don't get me wrong—I'll still use it for days when I want to keep my hair straight, but it isn't going to replace my hair dryer and curling tongs when I want to opt for something wavy or curled. And here's why.

As someone who has naturally wavy hair, I've tried tons of hair straighteners and hot air brushes alike, so when I heard about the new GHD wet-to-dry styler, I was almost immediately sold. A hair dryer and a straightener that claims to style and dry your hair with no damage? Yes, to all of the above.

As a great writer does, I went in to this with zero research, with no user manual in sight. I know, I'm so good at my job. As such, I had no expectations. I turned on the slightly chunkier-than-average hair straightener-lookalike and was greeted by the sound of a small jet engine. Interesting. I appreciated how the device wasn't too noisy (in comparison to a regular hair dryer), however, I found that the plates were a bit too large to allow for precision straightening near the root area. The shine shot did give me the finish that I was looking for and my hair felt super silky afterwards, however, considering the amount of time that it took me to achieve all this, I'm not sure if it's the type of hair tool that I would reach for on an everyday basis, especially when I'm in a rush.Slide the power button upwards to turn ON your Duet Style. It's also worth noting that I am lazy as hell when it comes to my hair styling. My straighteners have been gathering dust in a drawer and have gone untouched for months—I'm very much a blow-dry-my-hair-upside-down-and-go sort of girl. So the fact that I found the GHD Duet Style easy and fuss-free speaks volumes. Take each section of your hair and hold the Duet Style at the root for three seconds to ensure it's properly dry. Then glide the tool through the lengths around four times, just like you would a straightener. Work your way through each section until the hair is totally dry—and you're done. Straightening and drying in one.

But the attention to detail really does pay off. My hair came out of the styler super smooth and super straight. I’d say it took a similar amount of time to style my hair with the Duet Style compared to my usual hairdryer and straighteners tag team, but there is something very satisfying about knowing you’ve completely finished one section before moving on to the next. I didn’t need to use the shine shot, and my hair stayed shiny and frizz-free until my next shampoo. What’s not so good about the GHD Duet Style? Root drying vents direct airflow outwards at a lower temperature for optimal root drying without extreme heat Bespoke acoustic system designed to lower sound levels for a more pleasant and refined styling experience.
