About this deal

We love how it syncs with all the main health apps (from Apple Health and Fitbit to MyFitnessPal) so it’s really simple to access your data in one place. You can measure 13 different body metrics and the app gives further insight into how these relate to the average person, in terms of being healthy or unhealthy. The Index S2 smart scales will work well for multiple family/team members and will work well when switched between multiple dwellings. I had zero issues with the data immediately getting to the correct Garmin Connect account and linking it onto the Apple environment was relatively straightforward, although there are few nuances with sharing data from Apple Health.

Ultimately, the Garmin Index S2 works well, with accurate results in testing, but it slightly under-delivers for the high price. If this product isn't for you Xiaomi Mi Smart Scale 2There’s no doubt the Garmin Index S2 is well made and looks sleek, but it’s an expensive bit of kit that doesn’t offer enough for the price.

Weight and body composition data was in line with that recorded by professional scales at our gym, and results were consistent across multiple weigh-ins. Tweaked some algorithms related to body fat & other impedance-based measurements (based on increased sensitivity of sensors) Like Withings' other scales (listed below). the Body+ is well designed has a particularly large, bright display that's easy to read when standing up, and a sizeable toughened glass platform that makes it easy to balance. Measurements are consistent, and comparable with those from professional gym scales. This is one of the smallest scales we've tested, with a platform measuring 28 x 28cm. That makes it handy for small bathrooms where storage space is at a premium, but if you sometimes struggle with balance then you might find one of the many Withings Body smart scales a better choice. Likewise, if you do have issues around your weight or numbers on a scale are particularly triggering for you, a smart scale may not be the best option to keep you healthy. How we test smart scales The scale can measure both standing heart rate and pulse wave velocity. A lower heart rate is generally a sign of better fitness, while pulse wave velocity indicates how flexible your arteries are. Stiffer arteries mean your heart has to work harder to pump blood around your body. And here’s the scale sitting atop its wrapper. This is the cleanest it’ll ever be. From this moment forward it’ll look worse, even if you never touch it. Dust collects at an astonishing rate on this thing.

Now, to run through what’s new on this scale, I’ve got the Index 1 and Index S2 side by side. Both literally and figuratively. I’ve been using them side by side, seeing how they compare for a bit now. Here’s all the differences between them (and yes, these are mostly minor): The Garmin Index S2 was the best of 4 relatively expensive smart scales I reviewed. However, the Index S2 experience could have been improved by a better design and onboarding process. Smart scales are a relatively new way of looking at a person’s weight, by looking at a lot more,” Ramsay said. “The reason why someone may want to know a bit more about their metrics is because there are some limitations to just measuring weight when on a weight loss programme that includes exercise. Muscle weighs more than fat, so an exercise program — with a healthy diet — may elicit an increase in lean muscle mass and a reduction in body fat. However, if you are looking at just your overall weight, you may not see the reductions that you expect. This can lead to inaccurate reporting of progress and a drop in motivation.” NOTE: Most readers go on to buy the Withings Body+ ! 😉 *NOT* the top-end CARDIO model, that’s twice the price for little benefit. Basically buy the same brand scale as any brand you are already heavily invested in OTHERWISE buy the Withings ! It’s Bluetooth-enabled, which means you need to open the companion Zepp Life app to see your 13 body composition stats. You can only see your weight on the scale itself but the app offers more insight, although some of it felt slightly clunky.

Tip: Your Garmin Connect account can be a dormant one that you only use for the purpose of sending the data somewhere else. I decide to treat myself and get the Index S2, since I've been training pretty hard these past two years; I have two other body scales, and also use the tape-measure system to measure body fat. Unlike most smart scales we’ve tested, the Renpho refreshingly comes with a rechargeable lithium battery and USB charger (included) rather than triple AAAs. It also has unlimited users and baby and pet modes. The app will ask you if you’d like to invite any other users to the scale. You can invite up to 15 people (thus presumably making 16 people in total). While it’s unlikely your Brady Bunch is that big in your house, this is more for team scenarios where multiple athletes are weighing in.
