About this deal

The oven temperature is a bit lower than normal, as I don’t want the sponges to brown too much. This also comes somewhat from the brands of colours that you use! Red food colouring, orange food colouring, yellow food colouring, green food colouring, blue food colouring and purple food colouring. for the sponge mixtures! Using the gel food colors, tint the batter in one bowl blue, one bowl red, one bowl green, one bowl yellow, one bowl orange (by using red and yellow), and one bowl purple (by using blue and red). And this cake is fairly straight forward to make, though it takes a little time. The time is primarily from dividing the cake batter and frosting and then dying everything six different colors. Time consuming, but easy to put together, and so worth it in the end! How to Make a Rainbow Layer Cake All you need for this one pan rainbow layer cake is a handful of pretty standard baking ingredients. Of course you could buy buttercream frosting or fondant, but my recipes are super easy and delicious! As for the milk in this cake, I use buttermilk. It really lends a more tender cake in this instance, so I 100% recommend it. I know it’s a pain to buy a whole container of buttermilk, so do what I do and buy powdered buttermilk. It’s brilliant! You add a little of the powder to your dry ingredients, then add water when it’s time to add the liquid. The powdered buttermilk stays good for months in the fridge, so you can use it in later recipes without having to waste anything. Rainbow Swirl Technique

Add the final layer of cake on top, the frost the outside of the cake. Feel free to use my tutorial for frosting a smooth cake, if you like.

I use a large metal scraper to decorate the sides of the cake, and a small angled spatula to also help cover the sponges – and its much easier and you are going to get a smoother finish using these as well!

This post is sponsored by Challenge Butter, but all opinions are my own. Moist & Fluffy Rainbow Cake Add polka dots. Using water, apply your cut polka dots to the fondant covering the cake. Perfect the consistency. Add the milk, one tablespoon at a time, and beat until the frosting is smooth. Now it’s time to crank up the speed and beat on high until the frosting is light and fluffy. Then, you mix it all together like normal, and then split into three bowls. It doesn’t matter which colours you do first, but I did red, orange, and yellowtogether, and then green, blue and purple. Store or serve. Once done, store your fondant covered cake at room temperature so long as you did not use fruit or dairy fillings that can spoil. Make colorful cupcakes instead.
