The elev8r and other pure convection vaporizers do not warm the herb until warm air is pulled over the herb. Any pre heating does not heat the herb. That would be conduction. I think the auto standby mode happens after about 5 minutes of active use (you can resume sessions after that by holding the top button again but I find the timing to be perfect for me)
