About this deal

Overall, we feel the Kill Team meta was pretty healthy in May, with a good variety of teams doing well. Going forward, we will keep our finger on the pulse and monitor things closely in Q3. The Novitiates have a lot of rules that take effect in a certain area of the killzone. This gives them a presence on the table that makes up for their relatively low model count for a team with an average of 7 Wounds. Here are a few examples: The Novitiate Penitent, when whipped into a frenzy from the Novitiate Exactor, has a larger charge distance. Once you enter the Engagement Range of the first enemy, you can still continue the charge, you just can’t leave it. Tag numerous enemy operatives, then cause havoc with the Reap special rule and Absolution Through Destruction action. Even if the Penitent goes down, they’ve earned their redemption and then some! Balanced – The novitiates fall somewhere perfectly between a horde and elite team with their 10 operatives, with a strong spread of ranged and melee options. Heading over to England, let’s take a look at the LWG Season 1 event, which had 36 players and was the country’s biggest event this year, taking place entirely on closed/Gallowdark terrain:

Legionnaires – Many of the same issues one finds when going up against Intercessors, but leaning more towards melee specialists such as the Shriv-Talon or Champion that can easily outclass yours in combat. Saving your Faith points for Vengeful Strike can be the difference between winning or losing when up against ploys like Mutagenic Flesh . Otherwise save ploys such as Sanctified Rounds or Burning Wrath against non-Nurgle operatives. C Unique actions are actions detailed on an operative’s datacard that only they can perform, such as the Dakka Dash action found on the example datacard. If you want to see what it’s like to fight as a member of the Adepta Sororitas, add the VR game Battle Sister to your wishlist on Steam. Acts of Faith are a new addition that have you keep a pool of Faith Points that you can spend to gain interesting effects. At a minimum this gives you three more command rerolls a turn, but there are more expensive acts where you can convert failures into successes or successes into criticals that let you change your dice at key moments of the game to make sure a target dies or a key model stays alive. More on these later on. Inferno Intercessors and Imperial Navy both make strong showings, but we have six more factions represented here: Blooded, Veteran Guardsmen, Novitiates, Hunter Clade, Corsair Voidscarred, and Gellerpox. Another good mix to consider.

Sanctified Rounds– Add 1 to the damage of all autopistols and autoguns for the entire turn. This turns them into bolter equivalents. Combined with Eyes of the Emperor it makes autopistols pretty spicy. Novitiates flame weapons come with a special weapon trait unique to their team. If a player retains a critical hit with a weapon that has the Inferno X trait the target gains an a number of Inferno tokens equal to the X value. At the end of the Turning Point roll a D6 for each Inferno token, on a 4+ the target receives 1 Mortal Wound, and the token is removed regardless of the result. Blessed Rejuvenation–For two points regain D3 lost wounds on a friendly Novitiate model. You can do this twice during an activation, potentially healing 2D3 (and this faction has a medic as well). This is great, and can be used to heal a model to lose penalties for being injured, and to make heal models your opponent has failed to kill. Keep a pool of Faith points. At the start of each Turning Point, if there are any friendly NOVITIATE operatives in the kill zone, you gain 3 Faith points. In addition, you gain one Faith point at the end of an activation, if any of the following apply:As there are enough specialists to completely fill the kill team, you won’t be using or seeing a lot of miliants, but they are like if guard had a better save and were really stabby. Novitiate Penitent Novitiates have great ploys, a mechanic in Acts of Faith that lets them change dice results, and a lot of special abilities. A Novitiate player needs to know how these interact, and there is a reasonably high skill level and cognitive load required to play the team, unlike fairly straightforward teams like Intercessors or Custodes or Kroot or Harlequins where it’s a very limited selection of model types. CAVE: Basically follow the same steps from the assembly of the other Novitiate Purgatus under 24*. (d)* above. Afterwards you’re done assembling the Team for now.

Do you dream of dousing your enemies in righteous flames? Are you a die-hard convert to the Emperor? Is your armor made of faith? Then the Novitiates Kill Team may be the choice for you. And then finally we have the LVO 2023 Championships, an 87-player, 7-round event that took place in Las Vegas on January 28th. In contrast to our last two events, this event featured only Open terrain, so players did not have to build for or worry about Gallowdark play:Once you’ve got your kill teams and rules, you’ll also need somewhere for them to fight! Killzone Chalnath gives you a city sector’s worth of ruined buildings to battle over – ideal whether you want to start a new terrain collection or add to an existing one. The kit includes five ruined walls for your operatives to use as cover, two massive ruined buildings, and a game board. Killzone Chalnath Plus the short story collection Ahriman: Exodus , and the audiobook Ahriman: Key of Infinity . It’s quite the epic tale!

Healing – Both a medic model and an Act of Faith that can heal injured models means you’re a bit more resilient than you look. The designers behind Kill Team keep a close eye on how the special operatives of the 41st Millennium are getting on, ensuring that the game stays balanced and fun for all players. With this in mind, they’ve been working hard on the latest Balance Dataslate .Reconsecrate Ground – A strong choice. Depending on the layout this allows you to choose an objective marker that is firmly within your territory, and all you need to do is then hold it during two different Turning Points as long as one of them is the last Turning Point. Additionally, you can combine it with Tac Ops such as Recover Item or Seize Ground to create a particularly valuable area of the board that your opponent can’t afford to ignore. This last part can make this a risky choice simply because if you are losing the battle you might find yourself pushed out of the points game entirely. A And I can’t leave without leaving my own tier list here based on my absolute opinion based on my national meta and experiences: Sainted Reliquae (2 EP)– Each time the operative strikes with a critical hit, gain a Faith point. So put it on a model with either a lot of dice, or lethal 5+. The Duellist is a good choice. The team icon, this model doesn’t get an additional APL for the purposes of holding objectives only, but gets a great ability and much better objective holding unique action. The ability, Icon of Purity, means that when a Novitiate model within six inches and visible is incapacitated, on a 4+ they can perform a free Shoot action. When the model gets within two inches of the centre of an objective, you can Plant the Icon for 1AP, and it halves the APL of enemy models when judging control of that objective. This makes it a great last activation of the turn to go in and seize an objective from the opposition by halving the APL of the enemy models contesting it. This month’s White Dwarf joins in with the Kill Team fun with a set of rules for fielding Harlequins in the skirmish combat game. There are also 18 Kill Team Tac Ops cards, a Total War: Warhammer III poster, new Warhammer Age of Sigmar rules for the Blades of Khorne , and much more!
