About this deal

The author reexamines a baker's dozen worth of classic tales, casting the characters in a different light (e.g., the Frog Prince regains his human form and eschews the snooty princess for a Continue reading » Come on, then. Follow me. Can’t have no half kin of mine walking ’round looking like Kunta Kente. Let’s at least get you looking like the Ike Turner you is.” What a GENIUS hot take coming from a woman whose son is going to prison for killing WOMEN & this is the reason why HE should not be put on Death Row?) One should be able to say of a princess ''She was as good as she was beautiful,'' according to The Art of Being a Princess (third revised edition), which the almost-thirteen-year-old Pri… More...

It was hilarious and added a whole other layer of fun to the story. But the entire book plot was a riot. Robot Roz undertakes an unusual ocean journey to save her adopted island home in this third series entry. But that's ok, because YA or MG, I can pretty much always count on Vivian Vande Velde to give me these things: For six long years Nyssa has been seeking justice for her parents who were murdered when she was 10 years old. She had suspected Elsdon, a youngest son of Lord Haraford, but his parents had Continue reading » Vande Velde (Never Trust a Dead Man) establishes a clever premise for this consistently entertaining fantasy novel. When Giannine arrives at the virtual reality Continue reading » My one complaint is the climax. It felt a little…anticlimactic. And the ending for a certain character was extremely unsatisfactory and didn’t seem in character at all.

The narrative is non-linear, moving randomly between multiple characters and eras. It was an odd choice as it serves to only confuse the reader. The “voices” of the characters are so similar that I found it difficult to remember who was narrating and which era I was in.Thanks to NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group- The Dial Press for an egalley in exchange for an honest review. The story is told in third person limited point-of-view. We are directly in Imogene’s head the whole time and gooood gracious, did the girl have a some hilarious, snarky monologue. Half of my enjoyment of the book was just being inside her head. In this Edgar Award winner set in medieval times, Anora chooses to marry the obnoxious but wealthy Farold instead of Selwyn, thus making Selwyn the chief suspect when Farold is found murdered. Continue reading » I absolutely adored this debut novel and felt that each female character stood out to me in the narration. No one voice drowning out another. Author Tara M. Stringfellow is definitely on my radar and I will keep an eye out for future titles. I enjoyed the quirkiness of the story but I kind of got tired of how things kept going from bad to worst without any break. More than once I felt like going "Oh for goodness sake" because I just couldn't believe what some of the characters were doing or saying.

The Splendid and the Vile: A Saga of Churchill, Family, and Defiance During the Blitz (Kindle Edition) This is a soft coming-of-age story that particularly speaks to the growing pains of young adolescents (and specifically girls). It is also a fun read for entertainment that is written in a style suitable for students grades 4-8. It meets these needs well. As you can tell from the line quoted above, this book is filled with gorgeous, poetic observations that will make you stop and dwell on the words you just consumed. There were so many lines I highlighted in this book. The story captivates from beginning to end and the characters pull you in and invite you into their lives. This was a powerful read and is one to be treasured. Highly recommend.I’ve read much better family sagas. The constant time jumps were irritating. This book is intentionally female-centric, but the male characters are too one-dimensional, either idealized or demonized. I hated the way one character prioritized her ancestral home and heritage over her children. How can a mother move her young daughters into a house to live with the boy who raped one of the daughters? And how could their father, an intelligent, sophisticated man, not have gone to court to stop that from happening? The action is convincing, carried forward by dialogue and ironic good humor. A satisfying journey for fans of fractured fairy tales."
