Keeping in mind that the best carbon paper for tracing makes clean lines, can be used multiple times, and can work on a variety of surfaces, we’ve chosen 9 products that we recommend.

It works well on canvas, paper, wood, metal, and ceramic. Note that fabric is not included on the list, so if you need to trace on fabric, this is not the right product for you. T. Doi, K. Takeda, T. Cass Art. Cass Art is the trading name of Art-Line Limited, a company registered in England and Wales with a company number 1799472 Even holding them to the sunlight to try and trace it can be quite hard and inconvenient for the most part. This is why it is always a great idea to use graphite paper for tracing. To use graphite transfer paper, start with your drawing (or if you prefer to keep the original, make a copy of it). Choose a surface that you’ll be transferring the artwork onto, and lay it down first. Then lay your graphite transfer paper on top of the blank surface. Lay your drawing on top of the transfer paper, and gently use painter’s tape to tape it to the bottom surface. You do not want your drawing to move at all or the design will not line up onto the new surface. The still life above is another example of how detailed you need to be. This painting is a work-in-progress of a silver gift bow on a plate with a bunch of colorful marbles. If you look closely, you can see the lines that were traced to form all the nuances of each marble. Some of the marbles are in various stages of being painted. Some only have a few dabs of paint here and there, whilst the ones closest to the silver bow contain more paint. So you can see how important it is to take note of each variation of color, light, shadow and form!
