About this deal

Well today our up! has just returned from the VW dealer and lo & behold it had to have a new heat shield fitted. the heat shield now has a big hole in it where originally it had a small hole for the retainer's stud to pass through Not to solid. It felt like kit kat wrappers as well.

As for fitment, I guess they just push over the screw stud that is peeping out the heat shield, and has lots of rust on its surface? https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=%23&ved=2ahUKEwjwvra2m7DkAhXIQUEAHdtmDGEQxa8BMAJ6BAgAEAY&usg=AOvVaw0VTJzWxrN8ZFOD4xbU2nov

If you have already used method 1 & the rust bug has got hold once more or you just want to only fix the one point with minimal under the car time then this is the method for you. Haven't heard rattle (maybe just wan't looking for it and wrote it off as "cold start noise"??) but was cleaning under the hood a bit today and noticed that my shield is only holding onto 1 bolt while other isn't doing anything at all lol. All the "filler" that's supposed hold my shield in place just isn't there and it moves a LOT since really only one bolt is holding it. Basically the 1st time you have problems you have the option to undo all the fixings of the heat shield & just push/pull the shield to one side to move it enough to give the fixing nuts something to grip onto.Basically the exhaust heat shield gets eaten away at the fixing points due to corrosion of the metal fixing nut used to secure it to the car & becomes loose, these methods basically give the fixings nuts new materials to hold up & stop the shield rattling. Simply get your drinks can ( or other material of your choice is similar ) cut out a suitably large piece of metal that will cover the hole in the shield & also plenty of the surrounding shield too. Now your ready & can remove the Fixing nut & clean off as much loose material that you can from the heat shield/car. As for them not being suitable because of the heat - if you're getting that high exhaust temps, the clips are the least of your worries! Recently I had the opportunity to easily get underneath my Note and noticed that some of the exhaust heat shield clips are missing from the rear section, presumably corroded and fallen off. The remaining ones seem to be OK.

I'm thinking about just replacing the bands with the adjustable bands you see on rubber couplings at Home Depot for joining ABS plastic pipe or cast iron pipe like the 3 or 4" bands. When Nissan designed the car, if they thought that it didn't require any rear heat shields, they wouldn't have fitted any, it would have saved them millions of pounds Not to fit any. They don't think, "we'll fit heat shields for the fun of it, not to worry about the cost" sorry to be bringing up an old thread, but I think my heat shield is rattling. I thought at first it was my a/c compressor since the rattle comes & goes and I thought that the heat from the a/c compressor was causing the rattle. Just found this. The hole in heat shield is bigger. Like the heat shield has been pulled out over the remaining clip.
