Lost Ollie is an American live action/ computer animated miniseries created by Shannon Tindle. The series is based on the 2016 children's book Ollie's Odyssey by William Joyce. Jerkass with a Heart of Gold: Rosy is at first shown to be very cold and harsh towards Ollie and Zozo, but eventually warms up to the former and even helps him try to escape Zozo after the latter snaps. Missing Mom: Momma becomes this after she dies from an illness, leaving her son Billy and her husband behind. Jonathan Groff, known for his roles in Mindhunter, Hamilton and Frozen, will voice Ollie, a handmade toy rabbit stitched together from odds and ends. Ollie has a pure spirit with a heart of gold and never ruins a chance to make friends. He’s been best friends with Billy since forever, until one day he ends up in a resale shop with no way home. Though he’s often afraid of the unknown, Ollie puts on a brave face and sets off to find Billy, meeting other toys to help him along the way. Netflix’s Lost Ollie is the latest take on this genre. From creator Shannon Tindle, a character designer on Kubo and the Two Strings and Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends, Lost Ollie is a loose adaptation of William Joyce’s children’s book Ollie’s Odyssey. While Lost Ollie touches on familiar beats of toy-focused stories, it also plunges further into some of the darker implications of a world where toys are alive and fleshes out the child’s point of view. By doing so, Lost Ollie reminds us just how evocative that well-worn story can be when given enough care and detail.
